Job Title: Maintenance Technician
Department: Manufacturing
Reports To: Facilities Manager
Primary Shift: 1st, must be available for 24/7 call-in.
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Rate of Pay: $27.06/hr starting rate - Top out rate $30.06/hr in about a year.

SUMMARY Installs, maintains, and repairs machinery, equipment, physical structures, and pipe and electrical systems. Engaged in installing, inspecting, testing, repairing, adjusting, and calibrating instruments such as ammeters, position indicators, steam gauges, tachometers, and voltmeters. Repairs and maintains mechanical and hydraulic components of production machines and equipment such as pumps, material handling systems, and automated lubrication systems. Performs preventive maintenance for equipment, machinery, tools, or buildings. Operates and maintains stationary steam boilers and auxiliary steam equipment such as pumps, compressors, and air conditioning system. All by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.Visually inspects and tests machinery and equipment.Listens for unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect malfunction and discusses machine operation variations with manufacturing teams, supervisors or other maintenance workers to diagnose problem or repair machine.Disassembles defective machines and equipment and installs new or repaired parts.Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery.Installs and repairs electrical apparatus, such as transformers and wiring, and electrical and electronic components of machinery and equipment.Lays out, assembles, installs, and maintains pipe systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and repairs and replaces gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and related equipment.Repairs and maintains physical structure of establishment.Installs, programs, or repairs automated machinery and equipment such as programmable controllers.Sets up and operates machine tools such as lathe, grinder, drill, and milling machine to repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs and fixtures, and tools.Operates cutting torch or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts.Fabricates and repairs counters, benches, partitions, and other wooden structures.Completes work orders indicating malfunctions of instruments or equipment.Requisitions new parts, equipment and instruments.Disassembles, adjusts, alters, repairs, calibrates, and reassembles damaged or defective instruments or equipment.Assists workers in repair of instruments or equipment.Follows maintenance associated safety, quality and environmental policies. Interprets specifications, blueprints, and job orders. Confers with manufacturing team to coordinate activities of the maintenance department.Inspects and measures parts to detect wear, misalignment, or other problems.Realigns and adjusts components such as spindles and clutches.Locates damaged air and hydraulic pipes on machine, measures and supports installation of new pipe.Starts machines and equipment to test operation following repair.Reviews manufacturers' service manuals, plant usage schedules, and records of maintenance problems to determine optimum frequency of preventive maintenance.Studies production and operation schedules and confers with manufacturing team to determine when planned maintenance will least interfere with operation of plant.Installs power supply wiring and conduit for newly installed machines and equipment such as pumps, mixers, conveyors, and programmable controllers, etc.Connects power supply wires to machines and equipment, and connects cables and wires between machines and equipment.Diagnoses malfunctioning apparatus such as transformers, motors, and lighting fixtures and replaces damaged or broken wires and cables.Replaces faulty electrical components of machine such as relays, switches, and motors, and positions sensing devices.Diagnoses and replaces faulty electronic components, such as printed circuit boards.Uses Hart Communicator and/or Laptop Computer to interface with controllers to program automated machinery, such as DCS, to operate automated machinery, to test for malfunctions, and to verify repairs.Plans layout of wiring and installs wiring, conduit, and electrical apparatus in buildings.Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments.Cleans and lubricates parts.Starts auxiliary equipment.Opens valves and adjusts regulators to control flow of steam or water through pipelines, or to blow sludge and scale from pressure system.Cleans and lubricates pumps.Opens drains. Maintains boilers, chill and cooling systems, both mechanically and chemically by observation and analytical testing.Performs tasks such as packing valves, repairing pipelines, and replacing gauge glasses.Regulates volume of water in boilers and in auxiliary equipment.Responsible for maintenance vendors/suppliers and contractors seeing safety video, getting badges, safety glasses and hard hats.Cleans work area and equipment.

LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Ability to speak fluent English.

Working Knowledge of ISO 9000 & 14000.

Working knowledge of OSHA & EPA Regulations.

The ability to get along with others.

The ability to concentrate for extended periods.

Possess a current driver’s license.

Working knowledge of computer and CMMS software.

Must be able to travel 5% of time, including domestic and/or international air travel.
