Scientist II, Medicinal Chemistry

About the Organization Syros is redefining the power of small molecules to control the expression of genes. Based on its unique ability to elucidate regulatory regions of the genome, Syros aims to develop medicines that provide a profound benefit for patients with diseases that have eluded other genomics-based approaches. Syros is advancing a robust pipeline of development candidates, including SY-1425, a first-in-class oral selective RARα agonist in a Phase 2 trial in a genomically defined subset of acute myeloid leukemia patients, and SY-5609, a highly selective and potent oral CDK7 inhibitor in investigational new drug application-enabling studies in cancer. Syros also has multiple preclinical and discovery programs in oncology and monogenic diseases, including sickle cell disease. For more information, visit and follow us on Twitter (@SyrosPharma) and LinkedIn.

Syros Pharmaceuticals is seeking an experienced, motivated, and energetic Medicinal Chemist to join the discovery research group.

  • Act as a productive member of internal and external medicinal chemistry teams to advance drug discovery programs
    • Develop chemistry plans, strategy, and tactics to efficiently deliver high quality drug development candidates (DCs)
    • Work effectively in cross-functional matrixed drug discovery teams
    • Design, synthesize, and characterize novel molecules targeting diverse protein targets
    • Carry out integrated analysis and interpretation of multi-faceted biological data (activity, selectivity, kinetics, DMPK, physical properties, etc.).
    • Apply structure-based drug design and computational and modeling approaches to prioritize syntheses
    • Develop and implement synthetic sequences to desired chemical matter
  • Design and implement key experiments to drive drug programs towards development candidates

Success Factors

  • Desire and ability to work in a cross-functional and flexible team-oriented environment
  • Confident and self-motivated with the ability to act with clarity in urgent situations
  • Keen attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Resourceful, creative, enthusiastic, and results oriented
