Job Summary

The Supervision Specialist is responsible for reviewing the North Carolina Board of Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselors supervision documents, including, but not limited to, supervision report forms, supervision contracts, transcripts, course information, and verification forms in order to determine whether supervised professional practice and/or qualified clinical supervisor requirements have been met. This position is also responsible for reviewing other documents required for licensees, including, but not limited to, renewal forms and application forms. After reviewing these items, the Supervision Specialist is responsible for communicating with applicants, licensees, and supervisors regarding the status of items that have been received and/or are deficient. In addition, the Supervision Specialist will provide effective customer service to customers by phone and/or email.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Quickly comprehends, assimilates and applies proficient knowledge of Board laws, rules, and regulations for all levels of licensure on an ongoing basis.
  2. Completes data entry of various information and supervision documents into a database.
  3. Monitors licensees’ and supervisors’ compliance with Board requirements such as timely reporting and continuing education training.
  4. Provides reporting of supervision compliance results.
  5. Reviews applicant/contract information for supervisors licensed by the Board, including the initial review of documents.
  6. Organizes and updates paper and electronic filing systems for applicant and licensee records, correspondence, and other materials throughout the files’ required time period.
  7. Communicates clearly and concisely with applicants, licensees, supervisors, clients, and other professionals via letter, telephone, and email within designated timeframes.
  8. Gathers information from applicants, licensees, supervisors, clients, and the public to assist in determining whether an issue exists, clarifying Board regulations when necessary, and following-up appropriately to ensure timely resolution.
  9. Functions as a Board supervision, application, and continuing education content expert.
  10. Demonstrates professional, political, and cultural aptitude with an ability to work with diverse individuals, groups, and organizations.
  11. Demonstrates a high tolerance for a fluid work environment.
  12. Demonstrates a high degree of self-motivation and ability to work independently.
  13. Operates office equipment, such as fax machines, printers, copiers, computers, and phone systems, in order to complete job duties.
  14. Drafts correspondence related to supervision records.
  15. Recommends relevant articles for the Board’s newsletter and web content.
  16. Other duties as assigned.
