General Summary

The Engineering Project Manager (EPM) serves as the Project Leader of cross-functional teams and in collaboration with the project team plans, directs, and coordinates team activities to ensure the objectives of the project plan are accomplished according to requirements, customer specifications, and within established delivery and budget goals. The EPM has the responsibility for the overall project performance and execution and is the main interface with the project team and company management. 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership and engineering management for a project team and ensures execution discipline of all project management and deliverables and in accordance to requirements and scope/specifications.
  • Drives all aspects of new product development and is responsible for the smooth transition of products from initial design phase into full production.
  • Collaborates with all stakeholders including Marketing and Sales to determine product definition and feasibility and manages the creation of the project technical approach.
  • Responsible for leading cross-functional teams to deliver new products, on time and on budget while conforming to the company’s standards, policies and procedures.
  • Analyzes and defines project requirements and works with the team to develop timelines to accomplish deliverables; planning, prioritizing, coordinating, delegating and monitoring project activities; tracking critical path and controlling resources to deliver project objectives.
  • Selects appropriate strategy, develops project plan, and manages team to achieve performance, development cost, product cost, schedule, and ROI objectives.
  • Estimates, plans, schedules, tracks progress and requirements, resource management, and budget oversight for a given project.
  • Analyze, develop, implement, track and verify tasks pertaining to engineering design (HW, FW and SW), PCB design, prototyping, and front-end engineering such as DFM, DFT, obsolescence & life cycle analysis, and engineering change management.
  • Manages the day-to-day operational aspects of the project:
  • Conducts project team meetings to monitor status, identify, resolve and/or escalate issues and ensure project tasks are being completed on time
  • Facilitated technical ideas sessions and problem solving sessions
  • Managed the project budget, purchasing activities and labor allocation
  • Conducts customer status meetings and technical design review meetings
  • Manages project sub-contractors and suppliers
  • Reports project status to customers and company management
  • Ensures project documents are complete, current and stored appropriately

Qualifications/ Experience

  • Project Leadership experience with demonstrated track record of successful project planning and execution in a multidisciplinary technical environment for commercial or military electronic systems ranging from test equipment and instrumentation, flight electronics, integrated solutions and other special purpose electronic systems, including RF subsystems.
  • Strong interpersonal and effective written and oral communication skills, as close integration with other team members including hardware, software, systems, test and operations is necessary. Ability to communicate complex issues to technical and non-technical audiences that include peers, partners, management, customers and users
  • Desire to work in a multi-discipline team environment and ability to drive results within a highly matrixed environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of the process in taking a product design from concept to production.
  • Must have a broad general familiarity with: Lean Manufacturing Methods, Six Sigma analytical tools, Quality Systems, MRP, Bill of Materials Structures and Electronics manufacturing principles such as ESD control, IPC standards, ISO9000, etc.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects in fast-paced environment.
  • Analytical reasoning, risk management and strong problem solving with knowledge in performing root cause analysis and recommending corrective action.
  • 7+ years of Engineering Project Management experience.
  • Must be a US person.

Education/ Training:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year college is required.
  • Certifications and Training with Project Management and New Product Development such as Agile, Scrum, CMMI, Product Management, Stage Gate, is a plus.

Computer Skills:

  • Advanced Microsoft Project and Advanced Microsoft Excel.
  • Power Point, Word processing, Spreadsheets, Internet software, E-mail, Database software.
  • Familiarity with engineering development tools and packages such as LabVIEW, Test Stand, LabWindows CVI, C/C++/VisualBasic, C#, Atrium, Solidworks.
