Schedule Monday-Friday, 8 hours/day between the hours of 6:00 am-5:00 pm. On-call for nights and weekends and schedule may vary based on departmental need.  
Pay Rate $63,000-$68,000/yr.  
Description

SUMMARY
Manages all aspects of water distribution field operations including repair of water mains, valves, and fire hydrants. Plans daily maintenance work and directs emergency response.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Responsible for supervision of 12 bargaining unit employees.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This list represents the types of duties required by the position. Other duties may be assigned as reasonably expected.
• Supervises and participates in the repair, maintenance and installation of water mains, service lines, taps, valves, hydrants, and flushing of water mains and hydrants. Emergency repairs – 24-hour response
• Coordinates the maintenance of vehicles.
• Supervises machine shop.
• Maintains and repairs Water Works properties year-round.
• Updates distribution system records.
• Investigates leaks.
• Locates water lines for crews and plumbers using locating equipment.
• Investigates and resolves customer complaints.
• Administers the collective bargaining agreement and resolves grievances at first steps.
• Assesses purchasing requirements and directs the initiation of requisitions.

NON-ESSENTIAL/MARGINAL FUNCTIONS
• Assumes additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Position Requirements

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
• High School diploma or equivalent education.
• Two years’ experience as a supervisor.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES PREFERRED
• Experience in the operation of heavy equipment, mechanics and plumbing.
• Knowledge of City ordinances, State and Federal regulations as they pertain to potable water supplies.
• Completion of confined space entry, trench and excavation safety programs as required by OSHA standards.
• Knowledge of the principles and procedures of repair and maintenance of water service lines, valves, hydrants, and mains.
• Ability to follow, understand and transmit instructions.
• Ability to deal effectively, verbally and in writing.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, vendors and the public.
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds, PC skills preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
• Valid driver’s license required.
• IDEM DSL or ability to acquire certification.

EQUIPMENT
Computer, calculators, telephone, hand tools, electronic locator and leak detection equipment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed indoors and outdoors, including adverse weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate in the office. Entire office is smoke free.
