The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures will be the world’s premier institution dedicated to the art and science of movies. Located at Wilshire and Fairfax in Los Angeles, the Museum will be simultaneously immersive, experimental, educational, and entertaining. More than a museum, this dynamic film center will offer unparalleled experiences and insights into movies and movie-making.

Reporting to the Head of Film Programs, the Film Programmer will be an essential participant in the planning and preparation of film programs for the museum’s two cinemas. You will help implement vast range of film programs including : retrospectives, thematic series, preview screenings, guest-curated programs and large-scale events. To be successful you will be energetic, responsible, experienced and highly- skilled candidate. Strong knowledge of film history and non-theatrical programming is preferred.

You Will:

  • Be a creative partner in the curation of the Museum's film programs.
  • Develop a range of film programs such as retrospectives, thematic series, preview screenings, guest-curated programs, large-scale events and more.
  • In consultation with Head of Film Programs, initiate and pursue a range of original and diverse programming ideas.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Film Programs to prepare calendar text for print and web listings.
  • Introduce films and participate in post-screening discussions as assigned.
  • Manage one or more support staff.
  • Assist with administrative processes related to the production and budgeting of all film programs.
 
Position Requirements

You Have:

  • Minimum 5+ years' experience in non-profit film programming.
  • MA in film studies preferred.
  • Experience conceptualizing, researching, planning, and producing film programs.
  • Experience with outreach to filmmakers and film industry professionals.
  • Familiarity with a range of film and video/digital formats.
  • Deep and diverse knowledge of film history.
  • Curiosity about diverse cinematic perspectives and practices across history.
  • Collaborative sensibility with the ability to manage independent projects.
  • Availability to work nights and weekends as needed.
  • Fluency in a second language preferred.
