Process Engineer - Injection Molding 


Scope of the Role:

To identify, develop, implement and direct product and process specific improvements with the objective of improving total quality, material usage and productivity. This position will work closely with the Pexco Asheboro Manufacturing, Maintenance, Materials and Sales teams to provide leadership, support and training to achieve these common team objectives

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain awareness on company objectives for ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001
  2. Design tooling and develop processes for mono and co-extrusion profiles and tubes and secondary fabrication
  3. Take ownership of new projects from start to finish. Involves working on the production floor with production, maintenance and material handling employees to develop the process to get first article samples approved
  4. Work closely with vendors to get tooling made on time
  5. Troubleshoot process difficulties on daily basis and support production
  6. Work on continual improvement projects to improve efficiencies and reduce scrap


  1. Work directly and collaboratively with the various teams, sister plants and customers including short term assignments at sister locations.
  2. Other key elements:
    • Follow and support plant and corporate safety policies and initiatives.
    • Assist, mentor and/or train team members to enhance knowledge, skills and best practices
    • Plans, develops and coordinates tool development trials
    • Maintain engineering database and documentation as required
    • Perform other mutually agreed upon duties as appropriate
Position Requirements

Key Skills and Attributes:

  1. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
  2. Must be HANDS-ON and be willing to work on the floor
  3. Proficient with AUTO CAD and Microsoft office a plus
  4. Working knowledge of plastic extrusion process, terminology and extrusion tooling
  5. Understanding of plastic materials and ability to research materials
  6. Understand customer requirements and application
  7. Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects and attention to detail
  8. Task oriented, Strong analytical skills and well organized
  9. Strong interpersonal, excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the Organization
  10. Aptitude to learn and be a strong team player
  11. 3+ years of plastics manufacturing experience a plus
