The Computer Security Systems Engineer (Journeyman) will support Task 4 and 6 as directed by the team lead.

Additional Responsibilities Include, but are not Limited To:

  • Systems Analysis: Reviews and analyzes existing and planned AMC Command Post (CP) and C2 facility systems within Continental United States (CONUS) and Transportation Working Capital Fund (TWCF) enroute locations Outside CONUS (OCONUS).
  • Analyzes functionality, survivability, interoperability, and integration of radio systems, Voice over IP (VoIP), analog voice, video, alarms, and networks for use in the C2 facility supporting various contingency operations.
  • Provides voice and network engineering, design, and lifecycle support of command and control (C2) infrastructure.
  • Produces and updates system/service solicitation documents.
  • Reviews and analyzes factors and assists with resolving problems impacting the planning, design, implementation, operation and maintenance of the AMC C2 systems and infrastructure.
  • Evaluates new/emerging technologies and possible architectural changes that meet all requirements (Unified Communications (UC), Internet Protocol (IP) Radio Systems, Radio over IP WAVE, Voice over IP (VoIP), voice recording equipment, and conference systems).
  • Evaluates, integrates, and implements systems and network components based on DoD/AF instructions and guidance consistent with emerging technologies and industry practice.
  • Analyzes complex IP multicast video, Giant Voice and ad hoc technical solutions.
  • Analyzes systems to provide multicast video and dynamic line management in order to improve quality and stability.
  • Provides support and proposes technical solutions in new areas and domains to enhance customer's response capability, pervasive reach, message consistency, and rapid 2-way communications.
  • Life Cycle Support: Analyzes factors related to systems supportability and develops life-cycle support plans to include viability of system components, maintenance support, and cost analysis.
  • Site Surveys: Participates as a member of site survey and system acceptance teams.
  • Assists in the development of the Project Support Agreement (PSA) identifying site locations for equipment, civil engineering, and communications support requirements.
  • Validates the completion of the required systems tests and performs the necessary quality assurance checklists.
  • Program and Project Support: Provides support to C2 facilities through analysis, requirements, feasibility studies and strategy options on all new technology development and requirements (VoIP, Radio over IP, Radio integration into C2 systems, Voice recording equipment, administration and management systems, IP security systems, and IP technology incursion to include integration of UC into the TWCF C2 systems).
  • Reviews individual base cable infrastructures including buried cable (outside plant), method of burial, type of cable, type of splices used, interval of splices, and maintenance loops.
  • Uses available base records to compare existing infrastructure for compliance with governing regulations and best commercial industry practices and specifications.
  • Local Area Network (LAN) Infrastructure: Evaluates the design, engineering, installation, and testing of LANs and other prevalent networks, existing patch panels, bandwidth, and inside and outside plant (copper and fiber) distribution systems.
  • Evaluates opportunities to converge base networks as part of overall infrastructure modernization.
  • Familiar with the new standardization effort of all AF networks (NetLaw and BANFS).
  • Provides recommendations and engineer support to configure and standardize networks within AMC appropriated and TWCF facilities, and enroute locations.
  • Equipment Evaluation: Evaluates equipment components for functionality, interoperability, and integration with facility infrastructure.
  • Identifies opportunities to replace or migrate to commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) products and practices as appropriate.
  • Long-Haul Interconnects: Evaluates existing, planned long-haul network trunking, and long-haul lease support to recommend optimal configuration.
  • Evaluates outbound and inbound call management and recommends most effective and efficient utilization of network resources.
  • Power Systems: Evaluates, identifies, and documents changes regarding power for telecommunications, uninterruptible power supply (UPS) sizing, and integrated data and video components/systems to support existing and future requirements.
  • Equipment Integration: Analyzes existing and planned equipment to ensure interoperability and integration of hubs, routers, bridges, FM/UHF/VHF/HF radio systems, print servers, LANs, microwave systems, telephone switches, and other equipment identified at AMC sites as components of the base telecommunications infrastructure.
  • Assist with proposal development, if necessary.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.
