Assistant Camp Counselor 

Position Requirements


  • Support Lead Counselor in facilitating designated camp activities each day.
  • Create a warm, friendly, and fun environment for campers, parents, etc.
  • Maintain a clean and organized classroom space.
  • Ensuring the safety and well-being of campers at all times.
  • Adhere to The Handwork Studio's mission and values.


  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills for working with your team, teaching children, communicating with parents, etc.
  • Competent in any of the following techniques but not limited to:
    • Hand-sewing
    • Embroidery
    • Machine sewing
    • Knitting
    • Crocheting
    • Weaving
    • Woodworking
    • Baking
    • Story-telling
    • Fashion Design
    • Cardboard construction
    • Leading a classroom


  • Bountiful energy to sit, stand, play, and create throughout the day.
  • Experience working with children.
  • Experience doing any of the techniques listed in the skills section.
  • Must have reliable transportation to arrive to shift on time.
  • Capable of completing all required training and paperwork.
  • Passionate about working with children in a creative environment.
  • Possess a nurturing, kind and positive attitude
  • Ability to complete approximately 15 hours of paid pre-camp training (generally throughout the month of May and early June - usually evenings and weekends)


  • Must be able to lift and carry 25 lbs., such as sewing machines, fabric bolts, trunks of materials, etc.
  • Must be able to endure being outside in warm weather
  • Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time
  • Must be able to sustain mental and physical alertness
