Description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate in quality improvement initiatives to support a safe and healthy work environment to advance our culture of safety.
  • Lead, facilitate and support organization wide committees pertaining to Health and Safety, Emergency Preparedness and Workplace Violence Prevention including providing ongoing training.
  • Provide organization wide expertise through consultation, program development, implementation and evaluation of occupational safety and emergency preparedness programs ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and best practices.
  • Follow up on all reported employee safety incidents to identify root causes, ensure appropriate prevention plans are developed and provide direct support during incident investigations.
  • Monitor incident/injury statistics to analyze trends and opportunities for prevention/improvement.
  • Liaise with external safety organizations, government agencies, and other hospitals (e.g., PSHSA, Ministry of Labour, WSIB) regarding occupational health and safety issues.
  • Consult with management, front line staff and the Joint Health & Safety Committee to align Health and Safety training programs with organizational strategy, needs and goals.
  • Support the emergency preparedness program through policy development and review, staff education, including coordination of drills/table top exercises and AODA emergency response safety plans development.
  • Support the Occupational Health Nurse to facilitate the early and safe return to work for employees by playing a key role in the WSIB claims management process.
  • Conduct and coordinate Physical Demands Analysis of job roles in the organization.
  • Conduct ergonomic assessments along with outlining recommendations to reduce/prevent musculoskeletal injuries.
  • Conduct organization wide N95 fit mask testing.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Diploma or certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Related experience in Occupational Health and Safety, preferably in a health care environment.
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional designation preferred
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of legislation, industry standards and best practices pertaining to health and safety, WSIB and rating systems, disability management and emergency management planning.
  • Previous related experience in development, implementation and evaluation of health and safety programs.
  • Experience with completing Job Demand Analyses.
  • Experience with e-learning programs, proficiency in MS office (Word, PowerPoint and Excel) an asset.
  • Motivated, self-directed; ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team.
  • Well-developed communication (oral, written, and presentation) and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills; able to set and adjust priorities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, clients, families, etc.)
