Founded in 1980, the Dance Group performs the repertory of choreographer Mark Morris, hailed as the 'the most successful and influential choreographer alive, and indisputably the most musical' (The New York Times), whose work is acclaimed for its ingenuity, musicality, wit, and humanity. Live music and community engagement are vital components of the Dance Group. It has toured with its own musicians, the MMDG Music Ensemble, since 1996, and regularly collaborates with orchestras and opera companies around the world. In addition to 17 full-time dancers, the organization currently employs 34 full-time staff and 75 part-time staff, teaching artists, and musicians.

In the heart of the Brooklyn Cultural District, the Mark Morris Dance Center, founded in 2001, is the hub of dance and music education in Brooklyn. The nine-studio building provides affordable classes in multiple genres for people of all ages, levels, with and without disabilities, accompanied by live music. The studios, a performance space, a Wellness Center, and ancillary spaces are all available to the community and to nonprofit organizations at subsidized rates. MMDG's Community Education Programs partner with public and private schools and community centers to provide customized classes. MMDG also offers customized dance workshops for persons with Parkinson's disease and their caregivers.

Description

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

The Mark Morris Dance Groups seeks an Individual Giving Coordinator to join our high-performance fundraising team as we enter the final year of our Mark Morris: Above & Beyond campaign. This position has the primary responsibility of deepening our relationships with contributors and working closely with senior staff and board members to increase giving opportunities. This is an exciting position for someone with demonstrated success cultivating individual giving, who enjoys building meaningful relationships, who is interested in having a significant impact by growing contributed revenue, and who is eager to grow in their career.

The position reports to the Director of Development and works closely with the Executive Director and all Program Directors. The Individual Giving Coordinator joins a development team that includes a Grants Coordinator, Database and Research Administrator and Membership Assistant.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Provide personalized stewardship, cultivation and solicitation to donors and prospective donors
    • Manage and grow a portfolio of approximately 300 donors giving $250-$2,000 annually
    • Run and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to proactively develop and implement strategies for new and renewed support
    • Meet regularly with current and prospective supporters
    • Provide prompt receipt of donation and response to emails or phone call inquiries
    • Send regular stewardship communication, mailings, and benefits fulfillment
    • Manage performance and event invitations, RSVPs and VIP ticket orders
    • Draft renewal notices and acquisition proposals
  • Maintain digital files for donors $250-$2,000 including scanned correspondence.
  • Research mid-level current donors and major gift prospects and cultivate increased renewal gifts of support
  • Contribute to team strategy discussions on planning and implementation for increased major gifts and memberships
  • Provide administrative support to the Development Director and Executive Director in cultivation, stewardship and solicitation of pledges and major gifts
    • Provide weekly gift reports to the Development Director, Executive Director and various program staff
    • Prepare and record personalized thank you notes from Mark Morris
    • Draft correspondence
  • Support the planning for pre- and post-show events
  • Represent the Mark Morris Dance Group at events
 
Position Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5+ years of experience in fundraising from individuals
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience in individual giving and donor retention: direct mail, planned gifts, tele-fund, and digital fundraising.
  • Proficiency with office technology: Microsoft Word and Excel, Outlook and Teams, Asana, Ovation Tickets, Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge or comparable database experience preferred
