Share Email Opening Title Public Safety Dispatcher-Career Ladder (Open Continuous)  Description Position Summary: Under close supervision, serves as 911 dispatch operator for public safety receiving emergency and non-emergency calls from the public; broadcasts and responds to police radio patrol units and other public safety agencies; receives public inquires and complaints; maintains call logs and perform clerical duties. The work is normally reviewed in progress and upon completion of each assignment to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and conformance to established standards; most aspects of the work tasks are covered by detailed instructions or procedures.   Position Requirements Minimum Qualifications: Career Ladder I: High School Diploma or General Education Diploma, and six months work experience as a communications operator or dispatcher,* Must be able to type at least 20 WPM. Must demonstrate fifty percent proficiency in grammar, spelling, and math Career Ladder II: High School Diploma or General Education Diploma, and one years’ work experience as a communications operator or dispatcher,* Must be able to type at least 25 WPM. Must demonstrate fifty-five percent proficiency in grammar, spelling, and math Full Level: High School Diploma or General Education Diploma, and two years’ work experience as a communications operator or dispatcher,* Must obtain a Terminal Operator Certificate (A) within six months of hire. Must be able to type at least 30 WPM. Must demonstrate sixty percent proficiency in grammar, spelling, and math *or an equivalent combination of training, education and work experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this position. Licenses, Certifications, Special Requirements: Must obtain certifications in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and First Aid within the first six months of hire. Must pass an extensive law enforcement criminal background investigation prior to employment. Any criminal record history will disqualify applicant. May be subjected to an auditory examination. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license (no DUIs or major traffic citations within the last three years). Must submit a 39-month driving record with the employment application. Must meet the Tohono O’odham Nation tribal employer’s insurance requirements to receive a driver’s permit to operate program vehicles. Based on the department’s needs, incumbents may be required to demonstrate fluency in both the Tohono O’odham Language and English as a condition of employment. May be subjected to an auditory examination. The two step-career progression for the Public Safety Dispatcher position is provided to allow training of new employees with less than minimum level of experience and education to be hired at full level.The employee will be placed on the Career Ladder at a level consistent with present qualifications until full level has been obtained. As a condition of continued employment, the employee must meet the stipulated timeframe and career ladder requirements associated with each step. Upon recommendation for career ladder advancement the following documents/criteria must be submitted to the Human Resources Executive Director for evaluation: Must have a current satisfactory performance evaluation on file with the Human Resources Office.
