Summary

Responsible for supporting certification engineering on FAA STC and EASA minor modification programs for certification of avionics systems and installations. The role will primarily consist of creation of technical publications required for FAA STC and EASA minor modification programs with direction from certification management. Coordination with FAA Designees (such as DERs and DARs) to support on-site FAA activities and management of compliance documentation during the course of FAA and EASA certification projects will also be expected.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Creation of aircraft maintenance documentation, relevant test plans and data lists required for FAA STC and EASA minor modification programs with direction from the lead aircraft certification engineers.
  • Development of the Instructions for Continued Airworthiness (ICA) for STC projects including evaluations per FAA guidance to determine required inspections (such as EWIS ICA) and resultant creation of those inspections.
  • Actively assists the certification engineering team in development of other compliance document, including System Safety Assessments, Project Specific Certification Plans and Compliance Reports.
  • Actively assists the certification engineering team in activities with the local FAA design approval office or companies with FAA ODAs including data submittal/management and STC application creation.
  • Support the certification engineering team in various other activities with the local FAA offices including foreign validations of Astronics CSC held FAA STCs, PMA applications and FAA audits.
  • Manages and coordinates DER/DAR and/or ODA UM resources to support piece-part and installation conformities as well as article and aircraft test witnessing activities, as required, for the duration of an FAA STC project.
 
Position Requirements

Education and/or Experience

Required:

  • Minimum of two years working in the aerospace industry.
  • Certified Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Mechanic from an accredited aviation maintenance technician school (FAA Part 147 or equivalent).
  • Strong technical writing techniques and knowledge with Micorsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Familiarity and/or experience working in an engineering or certification organization in a regulated industry.

Preferred:

  • Associates Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Aerospace Engineering, or in a related technical and/or equivalent field.
  • Two plus years working at an FAA Part 145, or equivalent, Repair Station Operator.
  • Familiarity and/or experience with avionics, communication and/or navigation systems.
  • Familiarity and/or experience with electro-mechanical systems.
  • Familiarity and/or experience with Title 14 CFR regulations.
  • Familiarity and/or experience working in a engineering/technical organization with strict document control.
