Summary

Primary role is to perform ongoing sustaining support engineering activities for customer follow up aircraft equipment installations. Activities will entail supporting MRO staff and customers with engineering solutions to address problems identified during follow on equipment installations or problems identified during routine aircraft inspections. Secondary role will be to assist Field Support Engineers with on aircraft surveys and proto installation support when resource support is required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Fully analyze customer problems and concerns via all required blueprints, drawings, work orders, photos and sketches in order to troubleshoot, repair and return to service the customer’s aircraft with desired product or parts.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical faults and correct through proper departmental channels.
  • Works effectively with the customer and MRO to efficiently solve problems in urgent rapid response situations.
  • Works effectively with Design Engineering to trouble shoot problems and effectively communicate technical details to request appropriate assistance when needed.
  • Support staff that is on-site with technical guidance to perform test and substantiation activities.
  • Manage and conduct on-aircraft survey or installation for installed avionic systems and equipment when Field Support Engineers require assistance.
  • Function as a project lead and the technical representative to interface directly with customers, the airline operators, and FAA witnessing test pilots.
  • Work with the customers, airline operators, and MRO to analyze, investigate, and troubleshoot test results as needed.
  • Collect data and results of on-aircraft testing, survey, and analysis and coordinate activities to provide solutions using in-office Analysis, Certification and appropriate engineering staff.
  • Provide support to the post-test data analysis and STC certification processes.
  • Knowledge of how to design, troubleshoot, and repair test equipment, cables, fixtures, and fittings.
  • Interface with venders, contractors, and manufactures to procure adequate equipment and other hardware to ensure the performance and quality of replacement parts.
  • Support other electrical/electronic related manufacturing and engineering actives as needed.
  • Develop parts lists and Bills of Material for piece-part, assembly and installation designs.
  • Provide support capacity to Configuration Management.
  • Incorporate model/drawing updates via redlines.
  • Follow the engineering change order (ECO), revision, and configuration management process.
  • Coordinate between Engineering and Manufacturing under direction of Program Managers.
  • Provide changes for manual updates.
 
Position Requirements

Education and/or Experience

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering -Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace or related fields.
  • FAA or EASA Aircraft and Powerplant certified mechanic.
  • Familiarity and/or experience in the aviation/aerospace industry.
  • Knowledge of all aircraft mechanical systems functions and interactions.
  • Fully versed in locating, navigating and reading aircraft manuals.
  • Working knowledge of FAA or EASA Regulations and IPM.
  • Working knowledge of blueprints, work orders and task cards to determine type of configuration and special instructions prior to installation.
  • Knowledge of aircraft accessories, components and other hardware.

Preferred:

  • Five-plus years of experience working on aircraft maintaining mechanical and electrical/electronic equipment and fixtures.
  • Five-plus years of experience working with radio frequencies and electromagnetic power.
  • Two-plus years of demonstrated leadership/management experience.
  • Two-plus years of experience working in field projects that require traveling.
