Summary

Lead an analysis team that is responsible to assist drafting certification strategies, performing and documenting advanced engineering and testing analyses and substantiation required to support the installation design and certification of technology onboard commercial aircraft. This will entail modification of heavy structures both internal and external to the aircraft.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Works with Certification Managers, Technical Program Managers, Project Engineers, Mechanical Design Engineers, Electrical Systems Engineers, and Business Development to develop advanced analysis/certification strategies for complex heavy structures.
  • Actively develops and adapts creative and comprehensive analysis/certification strategies to show compliance with the required regulations.
  • Actively assists Engineering Team in leading activities to solve internal and external analysis-related challenges.
  • Provides guidance to the Technical Project Manager and Business Development to define the scope, deliverables, resource needs and schedule for projects.
  • Provide mentoring and training to engineers in the development of FEM strategy, modeling technique, meshing and validation.
  • Works in conjunction with ODA UM/DER resources to develop all quantitative certification-related documents and deliverables.
  • Develop and document advanced stress analysis models, utilize existing structural analysis tools, and/or perform hand calculations to substantiate the structural integrity of installation designs with oversight from FAA designees.
  • Develop, perform and direct model development, meshing and validation both with internal department and external analysis firms.
  • Develop and document damage tolerance analysis models using the results from stress analyses as input boundary conditions.

Position Requirements

Education and/or Experience

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or in a related technical and/or equivalent field.
  • At least 15 years of experience in aviation/aerospace or similar industry.
  • At least 10 years of experience working with FAA Part 21 regulations.
  • Strong technical writing techniques including outlining regulations and/or requirements and detailing substantiation of them.
  • Strong analytic problem solving capabilities.
  • Strong comprehension and high level proficiency performing Strengths of materials stress/strain/force hand calculations.
  • Direct experience working in a engineering/technical organization with strict document control processes and procedures and the ability to adhere to them.
  • Familiarity certification of commercial aircraft structures.

Preferred:

  • Masters Degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Systems Engineering and/or related field.
  • Direct experience with avionics, communication and/or navigation systems.
  • Direct experience with electro-mechanical systems.
  • Direct experience with electromagnetic interference.
  • FAA DER/DAR qualifications.
  • Direct Experience with FEMAP/NASTRAN.
  • Direct Experience with AFGROW/NASGRO.
  • Direct Experience with analysis of Composite structures.
  • 15+ years experience in aviation/aerospace.
