Custodian - Evening Shift (Full-time)

Brief Summary

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for keeping parking lots, paths, restrooms, and Museum grounds free of debris and litter. Cleans and disinfects all restrooms including toilets and fixtures. Cleans external and internal areas of buildings including maintaining floors, carpets, dusting, polishing, cleaning all glass. Responsible for set-up of furniture and equipment for meetings and events. High school diploma or GED; or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. A valid Arizona Driver's License required. Must be at least 18 years of age and able to lift and carry 50 pounds.

We are currently recruiting for the evening shift which includes working outdoors (in the desert) with minimal lighting and varying weather conditions. Applicants must be willing to work a flexible schedule including nights, Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. Schedules and shifts may vary depending upon operational needs. The evening shifts are typically from 1:30 pm to 10:00 pm or from 2:30 pm to 11:00 pm for special events and Cool Summer Nights. The Desert Museum is open every day of the year.

Reports To: Custodial Services Manager

Wage Progression: Initial Step $12.07/hour with annual step increases based upon hire date and the bargaining unit agreement in effect at the time of the anniversary date. Subsequent steps are: $13.16; $13.55; $13.82; $14.10; and $14.95

Position Summary

Keeps Museum buildings and grounds in clean and orderly condition by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Cleans and disinfects restrooms including toilets and fixtures.
  • Cleans external and internal areas of buildings including dusting, polishing, sweeping, mopping, stripping and waxing floors.
  • Cleans all glass inside and out.
  • Vacuum, spot clean, shampoo, and extracts carpets.
  • Launders linen and makes Guest House ready for guests.
  • Replenishes supplies in restrooms, closets, and kitchens.
  • Empties wastebaskets and garbage containers and transports waste to disposal area.
  • Empties all recycle containers, and transports recyclables to recycling area.
  • Cleans debris, removes all debris and gum from all sidewalk and patio areas using brooms, walk-behind sweeper, blower, and/or hose.
  • Cleans and stocks soda machines, removes outdated sodas.
  • Cleans and disposes of bio-hazards
  • Cleans up floods and other emergencies.
  • Reports all repairs needed throughout the grounds to supervisor for repair.
  • Set-up of furniture and equipment for meetings and events as necessary.

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Valid Arizona Driver's License required.

Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have the ability to be trained to perform basic data entry for timekeeping and e-mail purposes.
