Position Title: Research Assistant

Status: Temporary Full-Time (37.5 hours per week)

Start Date: March 9, 2020

End Date: March 9, 2021

Lab: Autism Research Centre (ARC)

Supervisor: Evdokia Anagnostou

Program: Bloorview Research Institute

Salary: Grade 4 ($26.01 - $31.09)

 

Working within the Autism Research Centre and alongside an interdisciplinary research team, you will be part of large multi-site project investigating overlapping phenotypes in Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and other Neurodevelopmental Disorders. Your main role will include following a research protocol and completing assessments with children of all ages that have been diagnosed with ASD and other Neurodevelopmental Disorders.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for providing clinical and research support to the Principal Investigator (PI), you will perform activities delegated by the PI and/or research manager
  • Responsible for recruitment, scheduling of appointments, facilitating informed consent/assent, and supporting all families’ understanding of the procedures and implications of the research study
  • Administer standardized assessments to children of all ages who have been diagnosed with a neurodevelopmental disorder (e.g. IQ tests, autism assessments), under the supervision of a psychologist; Administer semi-structured interviews with parents (e.g. Autism Diagnostic Interview, Parent Interview for Child Symptoms).
  • Score and enter data for standardized assessments, interviews, and questionnaires
  • Ensure research is conducted in compliance with the Bloorview Research Ethics Board (REB) and Tri-Council Policy Statement (TCPS-2)
  • Maintain study documentation, score assessments, enter data, and complete regulatory paperwork

 

Qualifications

  •  
  • A Bachelor’s degree in psychology or a health-related field
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with children with ASD and/or developmental disabilities; the capacity to work comfortably and successfully with these children and their parents will be imperative for success in this position
  • Experience and demonstrated skill in administering psychological assessments and following standardized administration/scoring procedures during child assessments, parental interviews, and questionnaires is an asset
  • At least one year of clinical research experience is preferred, that has garnered you an understanding of research policies and procedures
  • Broad clinical skills and knowledge of neurodevelopmental disorders will be considered assets
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to function independently, and yet collaboratively, within a research team
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Demonstrated computer software skills (including Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access)
  • Ability to work flexible hours
