Definition and Purpose

Under the direct supervision of the Director - Recreational Sports, the Assistant Coordinator - Marketing and Assessement is responsible for all aspects of marketing and assessment operations at the Cal Poly Recreation Center including researching, implementing, and developing guidelines and procedures for marketing membership sales and providing communications to members. The Assistant Coordinator - Marketing and Assessment works directly with professional and student staff to best serve Cal Poly students and campus community members. This position is responsible for creating and implementing a strategy for marketing Recreational Sports programs and leading the corporate-wide assessment effort. This individual will be essential in communicating the ASI brand in a positive and authentic way to both current and future Cal Poly audiences.

Educational and Qualifying Experience, Skills, Licenses, Credentials

Educational/License/Credential Requirements

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.

Graduation from a four-year college or university preferred (8 years applicable experience may be substituted for educational requirement).

Experience Requirements

Minimum one (1) year professional marketing and communications experience, three (3) years preferred that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the job.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

Thorough knowledge of correct English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.

General knowledge of office methods, equipment, procedures, and practices.

Knowledge of Windows-based computer systems.

Demonstrated ability to work well with others on diverse teams.

Ability to be highly organized and have great time management and planning skills.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Working knowledge of applicable laws pertaining to written and electronic materials, confidentiality, and news media, including libel/slander, copyright, and privacy laws.

Ability to present information that meets the requirements of the media and publications involved and that is designed for audiences of varying interests.

Proficient in content marketing and editing.

Demonstrated experience in social and digital media.

Experience with administration, supervision, leadership, or management.

Knowledge of internet-based marketing programs such as Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Linked-In, MailChimp, HootSuite, etc.

General knowledge of program services.

Ability to work with diverse populations and those with special limitations or needs.

Ability to be a self-starter and work effectively under pressure.

Knowledge of CAS standards for assessment.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervise Recreation Center Marketing Student Assistant.

Facilitate meetings, conduct performance evaluations, establish goals, and monitor day-to-day operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Marketing

Develop, implement, and revise the Cal Poly Recreation Center Marketing/Communication plan.

Set-up promotional displays in the Cal Poly Recreation Center and around campus.

Act as liaison between Recreational Sports Programming staff and ASI Marketing and Public Relations.

Promote Recreational Sports programs to campus groups/clubs/residence halls.

Research trends in fitness and wellness and provide market awareness to staff and members.

Assist in determining the needs of the campus community for fitness and recreation.

Post and deliver marketing materials; distribute materials to ASI Programs and other campus organizations.

Monitor the Recreational Sports website, ensuring that all information is accurate and communicated effectively.

Membership Services

Set marketing goals for membership outreach and promotion.

Set fiscal goals for membership sales, guest pass sales, and sponsored guest sales.

Promote faculty/staff/alumni Cal Poly Recreation Center memberships on campus.

Serve as the Recreational Sports liaison to all members of the Cal Poly Recreation Center.

Utilize appropriate media to educate Cal Poly Recreation Center members and campus community participants regarding ASI Recreational Sports programs and activities.

Understand and effectively communicate mandatory student fee structures.

Ensure that members are appropriately informed of upcoming events, maintenance closures, facility improvements, building hours, etc.

Recreational Sports Assessment

Plan, organize, and facilitate Recreational Sports assessment projects in support of the ASI Strategic Plan.

Provide guidance and support to Recreational Sports areas in the development and implementation of program-level assessment plans.

Analyze, disseminate, and communicate assessment data to appropriate parties.

Assessment

Develop and execute assessment of programs and/or services for areas of responsibility including, but not limited to, setting and implementing goals, evaluating outcomes, and ongoing enhancement.

Participate in the overall ASI assessment planning and goal setting.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

Represent ASI on committees as appropriate.

Attend and participate in meetings as necessary.

Ensure continuous professional development.

The person holding this position is considered a "mandated reporter" under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in ASI policy as a condition of their employment.

Other duties as assigned.

Period of Employment

Employment with this organization is of an "at will" nature, which means that the employee may resign at any time and ASI may discharge the employee at any time with or without cause.

Background Check

This position is subject to a background check (including criminal records) as well as National Address Locater (Social Security Number [SSN] Trace), 7 year County Criminal Search in each county and/or state the applicant lived in based on the SSN Trace, National Criminal Database Search, Name Search, Employment Verification (All employers in past 7 years) and Education Verification (Highest Degree). Credit Reports, Motor Vehicle Record Check and Professional License Verification may also be required based upon the essential functions of the position.

Salary Schedule

Hourly Rate: $25.01
