Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory (SHC) is a Lasallian Vincentian Catholic, co-educational college preparatory secondary school located in the heart of San Francisco, California. Description

Position Summary:
The Campus Safety Associate assists with campus safety, supervision of students, including traffic flow and general campus monitoring. Provides equipment, and real property safety for faculty, staff, students, and visitors within an assigned area of the campus. Remains alert to emergency situations and provides first-line response, emergency management, and/or referral if required.
8 hour/day 40 hours/week Shifts vary AM (10 am to 6 pm) and PM shifts ( 2 pm to 10 pm)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage the flow of traffic during peak traffic times on campus;

  • Monitor campus entrance/exits, parking lots, school grounds, and enforcing general campus regulations and reporting violations (students and parents) daily;

  • Monitoring and reporting violations of parking policies to the Safety Director;

  • Assisting school patrons, visitors, students and staff with the understanding of campus regulations;

  • Must participate in emergency procedures;

  • Must be available to assist and provide first-line response in student and adult situations that may arise;

  • Performs routine foot patrol around campus and perimeter on a daily basis up to 8 hours per day;

  • Assisting with other campus projects as needed; e.g. facilitating deliveries, moving boxes, and general campus maintenance;

  • Must meet the physical demands required to perform the essential functions, and

  • other duties as assigned.

  • Skill in performing building safety and lock procedures;

  • Ability to understand, follow, and enforce safety codes, regulations, and procedures;

  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations;

  • Ability to detect problems and report information to appropriate personnel;

  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing with all school and community stakeholder groups;

  • Be able to work collaboratively and proactively, as part of a team and independently, in a dynamic and fast paced environment with changing priorities;

  • Strong organizational, staff and project management skills and decision making skills;

  • Detail-oriented, flexible, strong work ethic;

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate in a diverse, inclusive work environment;

  • Proficiency in computer applications, including knowledge of Microsoft Office products, Google Applications, databases and social media;

  • Committed to ongoing education and professional growth;

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as scheduled.

Certifications and Licensure

  • Must possess, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid California Driver License without record of suspension or revocation in any state

  • Must possess, or be able to obtain within three (3) months of hire, CPR, First Aid and AED certification

  • Possession of a CA BSIS Security Guard registration is encouraged, but not required

  • Any professionally recognized certifications in security related fields

Education and Experience

High School Diploma/GED required. Bachelor’s Degree in business or public administration, criminal justice, law enforcement, management, security or a closely related field preferred.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be proficient in Microsoft software applications, Google Suite/Gmail and internet usage, and; database management.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here represent those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential job functions. The employee is regularly required to sit; use hands and fingers to handle or feel as well as talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to stand and walk up to 8 hours per day. The employee may lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here represent those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions. Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
