The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures will be the world’s premier institution dedicated to the art and science of movies. Located at Wilshire and Fairfax in Los Angeles, the Museum will be simultaneously immersive, experimental, educational, and entertaining. More than a museum, this dynamic film center will offer unparalleled experiences and insights into movies and movie-making.

We are looking for a creative professional to lead our in-gallery and interpretative programs. Reporting to the Director of Education and Public Engagement, you will develop and oversee programs that serve audiences of all ages in engaging, participatory, and multi-sensory ways. Using all museum galleries including special exhibitions, in collaboration with the Director of Education and Public Engagement, you will create programs for visitors to connect to the history, artistry and science of film and filmmaking. The position will lead efforts to create tours across content areas to include breaking down the filmmaking process and thinking thoughtfully and inclusively about film history. In addition to developing the in-gallery programs, you will develop a training program to ensure all paid part-time educators employ museum education best practices including inquiry-based techniques, object-based learning principles, and creative hands-on activities. Project management and the ability to nurture staff development and good team dynamics are also essential skills.

You Will:

  • Conceptualize and implement multiple programs including in-gallery activities, daily tours, and in-gallery demonstrations.
  • Collaborate with Visitor Services department to create a pipeline of opportunity for all customer-facing staff.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Education and Public Engagement, develop evaluation instruments and conduct evaluations of programs.
  • Lead a team of up to 50 part-time educators, maintaining a training program, team cohesion and effectiveness.
 
Position Requirements

You Have:

  • BA degree in, education, art history, film studies, museum studies or related field
  • 3+ years’ experience leading development of museum education programs
  • Strong background in museum interpretive techniques and educational practice required
  • Experience with budgeting and tracking spending
  • Excellent listening and clear, concise communication skills-both written and verbal
  • Leadership qualities and work as a member of a team
