Description

Reporting to the Chief People and Culture Officer, the Manager Talent, Acquisition and Engagement is an innovative and experienced professional who will support the hospital's People Strategy - Thrive Together and provide strategic, functional and technical leadership in the areas of employee engagement, talent acquisition and the employee experience. They will partner and collaborate with leadership and play an active role in formulating the on-going employee experience focusing on alignment, culture, engagement and accountability. This position also participates in quality improvement initiatives, supports the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment and advances a culture of client and family safety through work and daily practices.

Key Responsibilities

People and Culture Functional Leadership

  • Provide thought leadership to help shape the strategic direction of the People and Culture department
  • Partner with colleagues/peers in/outside of Holland Bloorview to actively monitor and improve the service delivery across the hospital
  • Analyze trends and metrics to diagnose and resolve issues that impact organizational performance
  • Working collaboratively and strategically with leaders across the hospital to understand and support current talent needs and long-term strategies with a focus on continuing to improve the employee experience
  • In partnership with the Manager Organizational Transformation and Effectiveness and the Chief People and Culture Officer collaborate on the development and implementation of hospital wide initiatives and programs e.g. emerging talent program, leadership academy
  • Provide leadership and guidance to members of the talent, acquisition and engagement team
  • Participate on various committees as directed

Employee Experience:

Talent Acquisition

  • Ensure high quality education/training for leaders involved in the resourcing process
  • Maximize the value of the applicant tracking system
  • Proactively analyze workforce trends and metrics to develop action plans that increase overall talent engagement and retention
  • Develop and report via a resourcing scorecard, to including key resourcing data, trends, and analysis to enable effective decision making and drive the optimal recruiting performance
  • Develop and implement leading practices in relation to employee orientation and onboarding

Talent Engagement

  • Increase engagement levels and a deep passion for, and commitment to the hospitals mission, vision and values
  • Lead the biannual employee engagement survey process, rollout and communication and ensure feedback is translated into action at various levels within the hospital
  • Evaluate and enhance the current employee performance achievement program (Momentum) ensuring performance management processes are embedded into the employee experience
  • Support leaders in providing meaningful feedback and documentation for performance outcomes

Employee and Labour Relations

  • Provide strategic guidance to leaders and employees in developing, maintaining and improving relationships. Support leaders through coaching, communication and education on performance management up to and including termination processes
  • Lead employee related investigations in collaboration with leaders in a timely, fair and consistent manner and implements recommendations based on findings
  • Act as a first point of contact for incident reporting involving employees and leaders, and acts as the lead in managing reported grievances. Represents the organization at all mediation and arbitration meetings
  • Lead the collective agreement negotiation process and coordinate all research ensuring amendments resulting from negotiations are implemented

Qualifications

Education:

  • An undergraduate degree with completion of a Certified Human Resources professional designation e.g. CHRP

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 to 7years of progressive experience in Human Resources with a strong focus on talent engagement, recruitment and retention
  • Minimum 5 years leading, developing and supporting a team of professionals
  • Experience working within a unionized public sector environment preferred
  • Full exposure to all Human Resource functions

Skills:

  • Extensive recruitment, talent engagement project leadership experience
  • Demonstrated experience leading large change initiatives within an organization
  • Sound judgement, tact, diplomacy, combined with the ability to think strategically
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Strong collaborative skills
  • Strength in using data to draw conclusions and influence recommendations
  • Business acumen with excellent problem solving, critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including facilitation and presentation skills
  • Well-developed time management skills
  • Delivers on commitments and communicates appropriately
  • Takes on new opportunities and tough challenges with a sense of urgency, high energy and enthusiasm
  • Holds self and others accountable to meet commitments; acts with a sense of ownership and takes personal responsibility for decisions, actions and failures
  • Gains insights into the needs of our clients to build strong relationships and deliver customer-centric solutions
