Description

Reporting to the Assistant Director, Annual Giving & Direct Marketing, the Development Assistant provides administrative and programmatic support for the direct marketing program, which helps sustain and increase annual support through the Lucile Packard Children’s Fund. You will help produce external and internal solicitation and stewardship pieces for donors who give under $5,000, as well as serve as a resource for other projects. You will spend a lot of time learning and using Raiser’s Edge and Excel, and have the opportunity to work on more creative and analytical projects. This is an entry-level position where all aspects of the role can be taught.

GENERAL POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Position Specific Responsibilities

  • Develops, organizes, and maintains donor and prospect lists by running and exporting queries in the Raiser’s Edge database, manipulating data in Excel, and coordinating with Foundation staff.
  • Helps edit content and layout for appeals and collateral, contributing to overall strategy.
  • Manages 1-2 internal mailings, which can increase in breadth and responsibility as skills progress.
  • Updates information in Raiser’s Edge (i.e. managing “do not contact” lists).
  • Updates online editorial calendar and internal schedules.
  • Acts as additional support to colleagues for special annual giving appeals (i.e. Auxiliary groups).
  • Performs administrative work between direct marketing team and third-party consulting firm.
  • Exercises discretion on highly confidential and sensitive information while maintaining excellent relationships with third-party consultants, outside vendors, and Foundation and Hospital staff.

NOTE: We are a dynamic organization in a rapidly changing industry. Therefore, the responsibilities associated with this position will change from time to time in accordance with LPFCH’s business needs. More specifically, the incumbent may be required to perform additional and/or different responsibilities from those set forth above.

  • Required: H.S. Diploma

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND JOB-RELATED REQUIREMENTS

Required:

  • 1+ years of experience providing administrative support in a team-based environment.
  • Willingness to learn Raiser’s Edge, Microsoft Office (particularly Word and Excel), direct marketing principles, and other skills necessary to perform well in the job.
  • Advanced writing and editing skills with a solid foundation in grammar, spelling, and content structure.
  • An eye for organizing and visually displaying information.
  • The ability to produce high quality work with minimal errors when performing a variety of work functions such as typing, proof reading, data entry, file management, and calculations.

Preferred:

  • Previous experience working in a nonprofit environment, particularly a development office.
  • Prior experience in Raiser's Edge or other database software.
