Manager, Direct and Digital Marketing
(14 month contract)

Reporting to the Director, Brand & Public Engagement, the Manager, Direct and Digital Marketing is responsible for Holland Bloorview Foundation’s Annual Fundraising Programs and Capes for Kids peer-to-peer fundraiser.

This position will work closely with all members of the Communications and Public Engagement (CPE) team and staff from across the organization. Holland Bloorview’s CPE team is comprised of both Hospital and Foundation colleagues. Working in unison, they build brand awareness, promote acceptance and inclusion of childhood disability, and engage the community to support philanthropic giving to Holland Bloorview.

Responsibilities

Direct & Digital Marketing

  • Manage and grow a comprehensive, integrated, multi-channel, and strategic direct marketing and monthly giving programs that include renewal, upgrade, stewardship and acquisition strategies
  • Recommend and implement new appeals and develop strategies related to donor acquisition, retention and renewal
  • Monitor and evaluate campaign performance and provide critical analysis of donor data and strategies to improve performance
  • Manage a pool of donors and strategically identify leadership and mid-level prospects
  • Manage related donor communications activities including monthly enewsletter
  • Manage stewardship for annual program donors in alignment with overall Foundation stewardship strategy
  • Lead digital fundraising integration, including advising on website and donation page best practice
  • Work closely with Senior Donor Database Administrator to ensure data integrity, identify data opportunities, ensure data is captured effectively and maintain integrity of list pulls and donor segmentation

Donor Acquisition

  • Develop and lead strategy for new donor acquisition prospecting, cultivating, and soliciting giving groups (ex. Holland Bloorview swim program participants, volunteers, etc.)
  • Assess current donor pipeline and develop giving strategies and tools aimed at securing new donors
  • Develop a digital lead generation and conversion strategy to build the donor pipeline, working across all foundation events to ensure integration

Tribute Giving

  • Manage and grow tribute and memorial giving
  • Grow Special Occasions Giving program including marketing, donor relations, and stewardship
  • Expand Round of Applause program (grateful patient) including identifying opportunities’ for promotion, collaborating with hospital partners, and donor stewardship

Capes for Kids

  • Support Director in developing overarching Capes for Kids strategy ensuring best practices are implemented and program is aligned with the foundation’s strategic priorities
  • Lead the development and execution of Capes for Kids logistics including team captain and participant acquisition strategies, participant incentives, fundraiser retention strategies, donor stewardship and retention, and channel integration
  • Lead all fundraiser communications including developing recruitment and cultivation communications, fundraising guides, etc.
  • Lead the strategy for recruitment, cultivation and stewardship of general public and community group categories of fundraisers
  • Together with Manager, Partnerships, manage the Capes for Kids Advisory Committee to grow new fundraiser connections
  • Work closely with Communications and Public Engagement Team to leverage brand and messaging, content marketing and social media, advertising, media opportunities, celebrity engagement, and other activities
  • Monitor and evaluate campaign performance and provide critical analysis of data and recommend strategies to improve performance

Leadership

  • Supervise two direct reports (Senior Coordinator, Direct and Digital Marketing, and Coordinator, Capes for Kids and Public Engagement) providing coaching and training
  • Acts as Foundation’s Privacy Officer
  • Develop and track annual budget, including evaluating cost effectiveness of all activities
  • Monitor external trends in direct and digital fundraising in the non-profit sector
  • Work collaboratively with the other departments at the Foundation and Communications and Public Engagement team
  • Manage relationships with external vendors including direct mail agency

Qualifications, Skills and Attributes

  • 4-6 years’ specialized experience related to direct marketing and peer-to-peer fundraising strategies including executing integrated, multi-channel fundraising campaigns;
  • 1-2 years’ experience managing direct reports;
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Demonstrated success in developing fundraising strategies and budgets, and meeting and exceeding fundraising goals;
  • Strong knowledge of current and developing online fundraising strategies including paid and organic social media, search and display advertising, and other technologies;Knowledge and understanding of direct marketing and peer-to-peer’s role as an acquisition and pipeline development program within a broader fundraising program;
  • Excellent project coordination skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects in a high volume, results-oriented environment while exhibiting thorough attention to detail and consistent follow through;
  • Superior relationship-building and interpersonal skills;
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, and with the ability to provide information in a concise and easily understood manner;
  • Exceptional computer skills – high proficiency in Raiser’s Edge, online donation platforms, email broadcast tools, etc.;
  • Strategic and creative thinker;
  • Astute analytical, financial and problem solving skills;
  • Self-starter with the ability to follow through on tasks with minimal supervision;
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as independently;
  • Understanding of the healthcare fundraising environment;
  • Understanding of inclusive marketing and accessibility practices an asset
