Description

STR performs advanced research and development using machine learning, program analysis, optimization, artificial intelligence, and formal methods for the cybersecurity and resiliency of cyber-physical systems. Addressing the most urgent national defense challenges, STR is developing fundamentally new capabilities in cyber-physical systems modeling, vulnerability analysis, and attack detection and remediation.

We seek hardware, software, and firmware reverse engineers who have a passion for discovering vulnerabilities in cyber physical systems. We are growing rapidly and hiring at all levels, from junior software developers and researchers who want to learn and grow their reverse engineering skills to senior, experienced reverse engineers who are looking for a challenge (we have plenty of them!). The Role:

  • Work in small, highly interactive research teams to reverse engineer software and develop innovative cybersecurity solutions
  • Perform vulnerability research and exploit development and mitigation on a variety of targets, ranging from Windows/Linux binaries to embedded firmware on non-traditional information systems
  • Document, demonstrate, and present your research
 
Position Requirements

Who You Are:

  • A recent graduate with a BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Cybersecurity or related field, perhaps with a few years of experience, or

  • A mid- to senior- level engineer, perhaps with a Masters or PhD in one of the above fields

  • Familiar with reverse engineering software tools such as IDA, Binary Ninja, or Ghidra

  • Familiar with assembly languages (x86, ARM, etc.)

  • Knowledge of operating system internals, including memory/process/thread management

  • Solid understanding of computer architectures

  • Motivated collaborator and effective communicator to both technical and non-technical audiences

Some Other Relevant Skills You May Have:

  • Experience with penetration testing or system hacking

  • Vulnerability research and analysis

  • Exploitation development

  • Implant or software patch development

  • Experience performing static/dynamic/symbolic program analysis

  • Knowledge of anti-reverse engineering techniques

  • Protocol analysis

  • Knowledge of binary file structures and formats

  • Embedded systems or firmware analysis

  • JTAG debugging, firmware flashing or extraction

  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages: C/C++, Python, etc.
