Addressing the most urgent national defense challenges, STR is developing fundamentally new capabilities in cyber-physical systems modeling, vulnerability analysis, and attack detection and remediation. The Role: Work in small research teams to develop innovative capabilities for rehosting and analyzing software, firmware, and hardware associated with cyber-physical systems Create and instrument virtual machines/devices to represent a variety of software environments and hardware types Collaborate with vulnerability research and assessment teams to develop emulation tools, workflows, and infrastructure Research novel hypervisor and virtualization solutions to push the boundaries of portability, flexibility, and speed Develop orchestration tools for carrying out automated, scalable emulation-based experiments and analysis Develop and use verification and validation tools   Position Requirements Who You Are: A recent graduate with a BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Cybersecurity or related field, and perhaps a few years of experience, or A mid- to senior-level researcher, perhaps with a Masters or PhD in one of the above fields Experience with QEMU, Unicorn, VirtualBox, Simics, bochs, VLAB, or other hypervisor/emulation toolsets Knowledge of hardware architectures / ISAs (e.g., x86, ARM) Motivated collaborator and effective communicator to both technical and non-technical audiences Some Other Relevant Skills You May Have: Experience with OS internals (e.g., kernel modules, interrupt controllers, device I/O) Experience working with embedded peripherals, interfaces, and device drivers (UART, USB, PCI, SPI) Experience with development, integration, and testing in distributed environments Experience with Python and C/C++ STR seeks to provide an outstanding work environment for its employees with excellent benefits and competitive compensation.Full-time employees enjoy 401(k), profit sharing, health and welfare benefits, subsidies for training and conference attendance to foster continued learning and development, and a casual yet technically challenging work environment.
