About the Organization Today Kaukauna is home to 15,858 people with its own full-time Police, Fire and Rescue services and a municipally owned electric and water utility. Description

POSITION: Gymnastics Instructor

DEPARTMENT: Recreation

REPORTS TO: Gymnastics Summer School Teacher/Gymnastics Lead Instructor

SUPERVISES: None

POSITION SUMMARY

The Gymnastics Instructor is responsible for assisting the Gymnastics Summer School Teacher/Gymnastics Lead Instructor and reinforcing the instruction taught to students.

MAJOR POSITION DUTIES

  1. Wear clean clothing in good repair, appropriate for the classroom or if outside, the current weather conditions.
  2. Arrive at least 15 minutes prior to class time. Punch-in on smartphone app.
  3. Examine and evaluate the safety of the gym and equipment.
  4. Assist the Teacher/Lead Instructor with set-up of the gym as necessary for the day’s classes
  5. Communicate with students, parents and other staff in a professional manner.
  6. Assist the Teacher/Lead Instructor with communicating objectives for all learning activities.
  7. Under the supervision and direction of the Teacher/Lead Instructor, prepare educational activities and instructional materials that facilitate active learning of objectives.
  8. Assist Teacher/Lead Instructor with instructing and monitoring students in the use of all equipment.
  9. Assist Teacher/Lead Instructor in monitoring student performance and progress.
  10. Provide appropriate feedback to participants/students on performance and progress.
  11. Assist Teacher/Lead Instructor in managing student behavior, enforcing rules and procedures. Provide appropriate discipline as needed.
  12. Supervise children.
  13. Assist the Teacher/Lead Instructor in collecting attendance data and recording on the attendance form.
  14. Assist Teacher/Lead Instructor with clean-up of the gym at the completion of each day’s classes.
  15. Punch-out on smartphone app at the completion of the day’s classes.
  16. Report incidents and concerns to the Teacher/Lead Instructor or Recreation Director in a timely manner.
  17. Attend all necessary program meetings
  18. Other duties as assigned by the Teacher/Lead Instructor or Recreation Director.

QUALIFICATIONS

(ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES)

  1. Strong leadership and decision-making skills.
  2. Strong oral and written communication skills.
  3. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  4. Ability to follow Kaukauna Recreation Department Time & Attendance procedures.
  5. Strong knowledge and/or experience of gymnastics techniques.

ENVIONMENTAL CONDITIONS

  1. Ability to stoop, kneel, climb, bend, lift, push and pull up to 50 pounds.
  2. Ability to sustain prolonged visual concentration.
  3. Ability to stand/sit for prolonged periods of time.
  4. Ability to endure a variety of weather and temperature conditions for prolonged periods of time.
