JOB SUMMARY: The Utility job includes an ongoing commitment to maintain the kitchens and storeroom areas at all times through proper organization and storage requirements.

This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission of the Organization. It is expected that the employee will demonstrate behavior consistent with the Core Values. The employee shall support the Organization's strategic plan and the goals.

The Utility reports direct to the Dining Services Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Rotation of all stock and inventory.

2. Put away all orders timely and in an organized fashion.

3. Properly label/date items as needed.

4. Follow proper procedures for receiving food and food storage. FIFO

5. Assist chefs and cooks by pulling frozen items listed on the menu for thaw as needed

6. Perform sanitation duties in all kitchens and all dietary storage areas.

7. Complete assigned duties thoroughly and consistently.

8. Provide deep cleaning as scheduled and as needed.

9. Follow state and all regulatory compliance requirements to assure department is operating within guidelines and prepared for inspection.

10. Support positive communication and relationships with other departments.

11. Provides direct support to the Executive Chef as requested.

12. Must maintain the highest level of confidentiality at all times.

13. The ability to maintain business/professional boundaries with all staff, management and outside vendors.

14. Maintains compliance with company policy.

15. Responds to all verbal and written communication within 24 hours of receipt.

16. Attends and participates in Department meetings.

17. Assists with special projects as needed.

18. Ensures the safety, health and welfare of staff and residents at all times.

19. Provides encouragement, guidance and resources to staff and residents when needed.

20. Acts as a positive role model for staff.

21. Other duties as assigned from direct supervisor and/or department Director.

 
Position Requirements

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 1. 18 years or older.

2. High school diploma or equivalent required.

3. Cleaning and storeroom experience in a kitchen environment preferred.

4. Must have the ability to maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment while meeting regulatory compliance.

5. Must posses the ability to effectively communicate and provide support in a clear, concise and respectful manner.

6. Thorough documentation skills including grammatical, spelling and organization.

7. If required to operate a company vehicle during the course of employment, must meet the requirements to be an eligible driver. Must possess a current State Driver’s License and have a clear driving record.

8. The ability to read, write and communicate to residents, staff, families, vendors, and all business relationships in English language.

9. Ability to pass a criminal background clearance check, drug screen, physical and TB test.

10. Able to work in excess of 40 hours per week (upon Dept. Director approval) with the possibility of a varied schedule.

11. Must have excellent organization and time management skills.

12. Must be able to communicate with all levels of staff in an effective, neutral and professional manner.

13. Ability to function as a member of the team in a multi-task environment.

14. Must be flexible and able to handle multiple priorities, with the ability to adjust to high pressure and changing business conditions.

Heavy work - Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds or force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. If related to patient care -Must be able to safely assist residents/patients including but not limited to lifting, turning, supporting weight and movement.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear and see. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and peripheral vision. The employee must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday and be able to assist in the evacuation of residents.

The employee must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position and have the ability to relate and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at time hostile people within the facility.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to demonstrate leadership and communication skills (both verbal and written) and must be able to read, write give and follow oral and written instruction in the English language.

Possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action

Must possess the ability to deal tactfully and work harmoniously with personnel, supervisors, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.

Must be able to show courtesy and tact and reasonable speed in performance of duties.

Demonstrate ability to operate within a budget.

Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing practices.

Maintain a safe, sanitized and effective production system, which assures efficient and effective management of resources.
