Description

SUMMARY:

Responsible for providing and leading complex technical and testing support to engineering and the engineering lab. Performs machining, fabrication of products, repairs, assembles, and installs the necessary equipment to support ongoing research projects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supports engineering with a variety of complex engineering duties and/or hands-on tasks
  • Sets up and operates fab shop and machine shop machinery and equipment including the following: Milling Machine, CNC Machining Center, CNC Plasma Cutter, shear, Engine Lathe, and other tool room equipment
  • Reads job specifications to determine machine adjustments and material requirements
  • Fabricate production tools from blueprints and verbal instructions
  • Takes prototype parts developed in house and builds all fixtures for production
  • Observes machine operation to detect work piece defects or machine malfunction
  • Measures work piece dimensions to determine accuracy of machine operation
  • Maintain traceability during the Fabrication process
  • Mark-up incorrect drawings and bills of material
  • Assist in performing root cause analysis and implementing corrective action
  • Provides hands-on feedback to engineers
  • Supports, communicates, reinforces and defends the mission, values and culture of the organization
  • Adheres to all quality and safety standards
  • Supports other projects and performs duties as assigned

EDUCATION:

Associate's or Two-Year Technical Degree preferred

WORK EXPERIENCE:

Three to five years metal working experience, setting up and operating mills and lathes, ability to work from complex blueprints and layout sheets, advanced knowledge of shop math (bend allowance formulas and trig), PC and CNC experience required. TIG and MIG welding would be benefIcial

  • Competent technical expertise, comfortable with the shop/laboratory and equipment
  • Possesses quality orientation and high attention to detail
  • Possesses strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with customers, vendors, employees and managers at all levels within the company
  • Possesses strong computer skills with demonstrated proficiency in standard business software packages (e.g., Microsoft Office)
  • Able to work independently
  • Ability to work a varied schedule, willing to work overtime when necessary
  • Must be able to speak, read and understand English
