The Academy Museum will be the world’s premier institution dedicated to the art and science of movies. Located at Wilshire and Fairfax in Los Angeles, the Museum will be simultaneously immersive, experimental, educational, and entertaining. More than a museum, this dynamic film center will offer unparalleled experiences and insights into movies and movie-making.

Reporting the to the Museum’s Director of Building Operations, you will oversee the implementation of several campus construction projects for a limited term of 12 months with a possibility of extension. You will be highly accomplished and will coordinate efforts with the Museum and its third-party consultants and contractors.

Primary responsibilities include scope confirmation, managing design consultants, bid and selection, construction management oversight, close-out, and managing all project documentation while also monitoring budgets and schedules.

You Will:

  • Serve as the Museum’s lead project manager for the campus construction projects (excluding exhibitions), managing the process, completion of milestones, team communication, budget, and implementation.
  • Manage architectural and engineering consultants, Project Management Coordinator and coordinate with staff to review construction documents, submittals, RFI’s, and field observation reports. Ensure compliance with university standards, project specifications, and local requirements.
  • Manage and negotiate consultant services on assigned projects. Evaluate the appropriateness and progress performed and completed by licensed or certified consultants.
  • Oversee bidding process and contract development for general contractor(s) and any other owner contractors.
  • Provide project budget development, budget management and compliance with fiscal guidelines.
  • Manage all documentation and information flow related to project management.
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews to ensure that required work is satisfactorily performed and completed by certified consultants and contractors.
  • Use project management best practices, such as detailed project schedules, budgets, and communication platforms, to ensure completion on time and on budget. Provide regular reports to Museum management analyzing project progress with regards to budget and schedule.
  • Closely manage implementation onsite at the Museum, including calling regular meetings, vigorously monitoring activity on the floor, and overseeing budgets. Troubleshoot any problems that arise over the course of the work and alert senior staff to any trade-offs to ensure that design, permitting, construction, and inspections are completed on time and budget.
  • Participate in or manage other departmental or administrative processes or projects.
 
Position Requirements

You Have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or related fields preferred.
  • Knowledge of building systems components, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire safety.
  • Five years’ experience working in construction management. Experience working in a museum, educational institution, or similar is preferred.
  • Experience developing and managing budgets over $1,000,000.
  • Experience working with demanding clients.
