Description

POSITION OVERVIEW

Directors collaborate closely with the Director of Consulting, project leaders, client relationship managers, and the mission support team to ensure total customer satisfaction, employee morale and welfare, proper representation of TC brand and service offerings, and to meet quarterly sales objectives. This position is based in Washington, D.C. and reports to the President & Chief Executive Officer.

 

WHAT YOU’LL GET TO DO

 

CLIENT SATISFACTION

  • Builds and sustains long-term client relationships and holds full accountability for the delivery of exceptional services and client satisfaction under relevant business unit by collaborating closely with relevant Project Leaders, Project Managers, and other consultants

  • Sets and manages client expectations of work, staff, and overall experience while developing and nurturing lasting relationships with the client and key senior executives

  • Identifies and explores unidentified client needs across all levels

  • Enables effective communication among project and client teams

  • Establishes regular client visits in order to add value to our customer base and provide insights for strategic planning and company growth

 

PROJECT EXECUTION

  • Designs, allocates resources for, and validates strategic direction for projects and programs

  • Owns project quality, profitability, staff delivery, and customer satisfaction ratings/comments

  • Develops and manages the financial plan for an account, including business development, staffing, and profitability. Tracks and achieves program success against plan and targets (utilization, budget, scope, timeline to completion)

  • Assesses portfolio quarterly and reports on key metrics to key members of staff to address risks, rewards, and opportunities for growth

  • Advises consultants on project work and products; guides work using methodologies and frameworks

 

LEADERSHIP

  • Serves as a member of TC’s leadership team acting as a trusted advisor to other leaders and to staff

  • Translates and demonstrates TC’s vision, objectives, and expectations

  • Contributes to the development, implementation, and communication of company strategy and financial plans

  • Burnishes professional and corporate brand, and attracts talent, through thought leadership activities

 

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

  • Networks and generates new leads

  • Develops and manages account strategies for each project/account; Owns revenue generation responsibility for projects/accounts

  • Expands existing client relationships by identifying needs and securing additional or new services to maximize business retention

  • Develops business relationships with various influencers and key decision makers at all levels within client organizations to identify potential opportunities early

  • Develop and actively pursue list of targeted key accounts and develop strategies to penetrate new accounts

  • Strategizes with the Director cohort, the Director of Consulting, and the CEO/President to accomplish quarterly business growth goals by developing tactical plans to generate revenue; Forecasts sales opportunities via the sales pipeline with support from the Business Intelligence Lead

  • Contributes to the development and management of TC brand, proposal win themes, thought leadership, and marketing materials

  • Contributes to the development of marketing strategies, white paper and proposal development, and pricing strategies, in concert with client relationship managers, Proposal Lead(s), Writer(s) and Contracts team, as required

 

FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

  • Meets and/or exceeds financial targets for the business unit portfolio of projects to ensure company financial success

  • Ensures staff are meeting and exceeding revenue and utilization targets to ensure company financial success, with support from the Director cohort and the Director of Consulting

  • Supports the firm’s financial health by ensuring adherence to company policies and procedures for expenses, timecards, and investments and partnering with the Finance team to advance our invoicing and project analysis and reporting processes

 

QUALITY CONTROL/RISK MANAGEMENT

  • Oversees client status updates, client requirements, deliverables management, budget performance, and prompt and accurate issue resolution

  • Drives the use of proven standards, templates, and tools across all project work

 

TALENT DEVELOPMENT

  • Develops and implements the optimal staffing approach for each project by partnering with the Director cohort, Project Leaders, the Director of Consulting, and the Staffing Lead

  • Assesses and develops, in collaboration with the Director of Consulting and HR, the consulting skills and subject matter expertise of all staff and the talent demands of the firm’s clients

  • Develops the consulting skills and subject matter expertise of staff by providing feedback, sharing best practices, instructing on methodologies, serving as a career advisor, and participating in annual review processes

  • Ensures adequate opportunities and preparation for employee mobility over time, with support from the Director cohort, the Director of Consul

 
Position Requirements

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree in a relevant field (business, management, etc.) preferred

  • 15 years of management consulting, project management experience at a services firm

  • 3+ years leading/managing a team to include direct reports, partners, contractors, and/or agencies

  • Willingness and ability to travel

  • Willingness and ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance

 

WHAT YOU’RE GOOD AT

  • Strong leadership skills including: coaching, instilling commitment to quality and excellence, encouraging collaboration and diversity and inclusion efforts, promoting the flow of information, and providing clear direction on how to meet goals and perform to company standards

  • Strong business acumen and a proven track record growing a consulting business with clear demonstration of profitable growth from project to portfolio to business unit

  • Proficiency with The Clearing’s i2i methodology and consulting philosophy

  • Knowledge and experience in developing cost/pricing strategies, developing actions needed to respond and secure RFPs, and overall business development and capture acumen

  • Demonstrated ingenuity and innovation in management consulting and developed thought leadership as a means of growing market presence, attracting talent and securing new business

  • Ability to work with management and executives within and outside of the company and have the talent to promote TC business

  • Proven track record of ability to effectively drive change and deliver excellent results

  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation communication skills within all levels of an organization

  • Client/customer focus with a sense of urgency to deliver quality work

  • Ability to manage and collaborate well with a team; can effectively address and resolve conflict within and across teams

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to influence and negotiate skillfully

  • Ability to work under tight deadlines, manage projects independently, and to be resourceful in times of ambiguity and when addressing challenges/solving problems
