Medical Records Technician

Picks up, distributes and processes department mail daily. Processes, logs and files all consumer related correspondence received from outside sources and data generated within Red Rock and all outgoing consumer related data/correspondence sent out or faxed from Red Rock. Provides coverage for front console, as needed. Processes information for the Social Security Disability determination and requests from other sources. Scans intakes and other chart documentation into electronic system. Protects consumer confidentiality. Receives cross training for other departmental duties.


  • Becomes knowledgeable of department policies and procedures.
  • Records, logs, and prints requests for general consumer information; assures requirements are met; prints information and forwards or faxes along with appropriate cover letter, releasing only the minimum amount of information necessary to process request.
  • Scans necessary chart documents into electronic system.
  • Picks up and distributes department mail.
  • Calls other agencies/hospitals to follow-up on requested information.
  • Assists with preparation and numbering of case for court when records are subpoenaed and court ordered. Meets deadlines.
  • Processes all requests for Social Security Disability, prints and sends appropriate documentation.
  • Prioritizes daily tasks to achieve the high quality standards set by the agency.
  • Assists with scanning consumer correspondence received by the department.
  • Backs up other records duties including, but not limited to, printing charts for audits, scanning, copying and answering phones.
  • Cross-trains to learn other duties in the department as assigned.
  • Attends staff meetings, workshops, and seminars to learn agency policy, rules, regulations, and procedures; participates in ongoing in-service training as well as pertinent external training.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of programmatic goals and objectives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements


  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • One-year clerical experience working with details.
  • Detail oriented, flexible, self-starter, must be willing to follow strict guidelines.
  • Computer literate.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Organizational skills for multi-tasking.
  • Ability to deal with highly sensitive and confidential information.
  • Commitment to the mission of Red Rock BHS
  • Preferred some related college coursework.
