The Lead Recreational Paraprofessional is under the supervision of the Director and/or Activities Coordinator and provides additional support to the Recreation Paraprofessional staff. Overall, the duties provide services and support to individuals enrolled in the Afterschool, Camp, and Respite programs.


  • Assists with identifying individual goals, developing and monitoring outcomes and adjust as needed.
  • Assist individuals we support with inclusion.
  • Respect the dignity and individuality of each individual and his/her right to confidentiality.
  • Lead and support Recreation Paraprofessionals with participants as they partake in age-appropriate activities, providing a healthy, safe and enjoyable environment and experience.
  • Manage participant presence in activities by taking attendance and headcounts assuring participants are safe and accounted for. Participate in discussions with supervisors on circumstances regarding safety concerns and problem-solving for future non-occurrences.
  • Ensures that the safety, health, hygiene and nutritional needs of the individuals we support are met through monitoring and compliance with facility rules.
  • Assist with supervision and instructions to Recreation Paraprofessionals for adequate and appropriate programming involvement, behavior management and assigned task completion.
  • Following direction from the Activities Coordinator, assists with preparation and organization of activities, including coping materials, and placement of supplies in designated areas. Prepare the room as directed for planned activities and any special accommodations for participants attending.
  • Assist with supply inventory assuring activity materials and equipment are in their proper places and labeled as needed. Keep materials neat, orderly and clean. Report the need for repairs or broken equipment.
  • Support Recreation Paraprofessionals and participants with daily activities as needed, including but not limited to transferring, changing, cleaning, dressing and feeding.
  • Supervises and assists Recreation Paraprofessionals to benefit participant's learning and increasing skills in all areas of independence. This includes, but is not limited to Self-help skills, independent living skills, accessing community resources and pursuit of leisure activities. If an individualized plan exists, it will serve as a guide for these supports.
  • Completes weekly vehicle inspection sheets and reports any issues/concerns to supervisors. Assures vehicles have appropriate gas levels for transportation needs and bus logbooks have documentation sheets.
  • Participates in staff meetings with supervisors to discuss issues and review program needs and goals. Also participates in staff education, program meetings, and other assigned meetings.
  • Completes required paperwork as required by the program, accurately and within prescribed timelines.
  • Maintains a positive, enthusiastic and team-oriented attitude.
  • Shows and encourages respect for personal property, program equipment, and facilities Assists in daily and weekly clean-ups of facilities and activities areas.
  • Sets an example for others through teamwork, cleanliness, punctuality, sharing, good sportsmanship, and other appropriate behaviors. Demonstrates appropriate role modeling and leadership.
  • Demonstrate effective organizational skills, time management, and flexibility in order to meet Recreation Paraprofessionals and participant needs.
  • Fulfills assigned roles in enforcing safety regulations and emergency procedures.
  • Must demonstrate Easter SealUCPs valued behaviors of Accountability, Commitment and Caring as appropriate to the position.

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • Limited supervisory responsibilities including assistance and support of Recreation Paraprofessionals when engaged in activity programs and/or involvement with participants.
  • Reporting and recording details of incidents, such as accidents or rule violations, to supervisors.
  • Communication with Recreation Paraprofessionals and supervisors to provide successful interventions or to ensure consistent care provided.
Position Requirements


  • Minimum of 18 years of age with High School Diploma or equivalent appropriately accredited by the appropriate state department of education. One year of college or university coursework which has been fully accredited preferred.
  • Enthusiastic interest in working with children and adults with various disabilities and 2 years’ relevant experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Ability to work independently, handle multiple responsibilities and assign priority to activities.
  • Ability to manage the goals of multiple individuals and families on a timely basis.
  • Must possess a valid, unrestricted, state-appropriate driver’s license and maintain current vehicle insurance.
  • Must be able to provide own reliable transportation for use in the program.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check
