In summary, the Sr. Manager will have a significant impact to the successful growth of Astronics. This is a position within a dynamic company that is excited about the long-term growth of aircraft electrical power systems and the long-term career development that can coincide with that growth. This position may require knowledge of SOX / 404 internal audit controls and related documentation.

The overriding business objective for the Systems Engineering Sr. Manager will be to build a high performing team to help AES successfully become the world-recognized leader in aircraft electrical power systems for small to mid-sized business jets, UAV's and rotorcraft. The key performance objectives for this position are described below:

  • Systems, Safety, Reliability Team Leader. The performance and development of the team will be the responsibility of the Sr. Manager, which will require exceptional leadership, dedication and the ability to communicate the shared vision of the organization. The Sr. Manager will ensure this vision is embraced by the team, and promote an optimistic, energizing and fun working environment. Values and behaviors are at the core of everything we do at Astronics AES. Leaders must exemplify the company values and behaviors, and ensure their team fully understands and follows them in their day-to-day work. Within the first six months of employment, the Sr. Manager will embrace organizational objectives, become keenly aware of staff members skills and experience, assess alignment of the team's abilities with business needs, and begin taking steps to ensure the working environment is consistent with the company culture.
  • Program Execution. Astronics AES development programs are staffed with a dedicated team of engineers, and each team is required to establish estimates, plans and schedules. The Sr. Manager is responsible for ensuring the estimates are appropriate for the given program, accounts for any risks, and supports the needs of the customer and our business. The ability to establish development plans, and execute to those plans within the constraints of the business is critical to success. Budgetary responsibilities also exist to ensure alignment with approved indirect and project budgets. Within the first three months, the Sr. Manager will be expected to become intimately familiar with the current development programs, budgets, schedules, and ensure systems, safety and reliability development is on track.
  • Process Improvement Champion. Astronics AES Airborne Power System products are routinely used in flight critical systems, and must be developed with a level of rigor consistent with industry standards such as ARP4754A and ARP4761. To be successful, in the first six months the Sr. Manager must understand industry standards, internal processes, and ensure all development is within cost objectives and compliant to standards. This includes assessing team compliance, efficiency, and identifying opportunities for improvements.
  • Teamwork/Collaborator. This position will interface directly with engineering managers from other disciplines to ensure a consistent approach in all aspects of people management, while addressing any issues that affect the organization and their teams. This includes compensation, staffing, values and behaviors, inter-discipline collaboration, program execution, retention, and addressing specific concerns raised by team members. It is crucial the Sr. Manager establish a solid working relationship, and trust, with managers and other peers in the company within the first four months.
  • Technical Expertise - This position requires direct experience and extensive knowledge of aerospace systems, safety and reliability principals to ensure the team has the required skills and training to perform key tasks within each discipline. This includes direct experience with ARP4754A and ARP4761. This role is considered a working manager position and will require, on occasion, the completion of tasks ordinarily assigned to engineers if short-term capacity does not meet project needs. This could take the form of planning, requirements development, documentation reviews and other routine systems and safety development tasks.

  • Four year degree (BS) in engineering discipline required (Electrical, Systems, or Aeronautical) Advanced degree preferred.
  • Twelve (12) or more years of experience in commercial aerospace (preferred), defense contracts (preferred), or another highly regulated and/or technical field
