Schedule Monday-Friday, between the hours of 8:00 am-5:00 pm. Hours may vary based on operational needs.  
Pay Rate $10.10-13.00/hr.  
Description

SUMMARY
Performs basic civil/environmental/architectural engineering work. This may include design, analysis, planning, data/asset management, and/or engineering inspection for various Public Works projects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This list represents the types of duties required by the position. Other duties may be assigned as reasonably expected.
• Perform GIS data collection to further the DPW asset management program
• Perform field inspections of existing street lights, traffic signals, street signs, pavement condition, sewer and water utilities, stormwater infrastructure, etc.
• Compile research related to engineering planning and design projects
• Assist with the development of plans and specifications related to capital improvement projects
• Gain experience toward a career as a professional engineer

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities as apparent or as delegated.

Position Requirements

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
• Current high school student in good standing
• Current undergraduate or graduate student in good standing working toward a degree in Engineering, preferably Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, or similar program. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES PREFERRED
• Ability to pay close attention to detail and check the quality of own work 
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
• Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing
• Ability to use sound judgment
• Ability to manage time and workload effectively which includes planning, organizing, and prioritizing with attention to details

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
• Valid Driver’s License and acceptable driving record.

EQUIPMENT
Vehicle, computer, telephone, and copier.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a standard office setting and in the field.  Some exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, noxious odors, gases, and all types of weather and temperature conditions; work and/or walk on various types of surfaces including slippery or uneven surfaces and rough terrain.  Work environment is both formal and informal, team oriented, having variable tasks, pace, and pressure.
