The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures will be the world’s premier institution dedicated to the art and science of movies. Located at Wilshire and Fairfax in Los Angeles, the Museum will be simultaneously immersive, experimental, educational, and entertaining. More than a museum, this dynamic film center will offer unparalleled experiences and insights into movies and movie-making.

The Associate Curator Digital Presentations will report to the Head of Curatorial Affairs. You will oversee content creation and presentation on the museum’s digital platforms. You will also explore digital strategies to enhance, deepen the understanding of and add layers to the museum’s exhibitions, programs, and collections. This position works collaboratively with multiple departments to create engaging content, including the mobile application, website, and digital interactives. The Associate Curator may also conceptualize their own exhibitions and participate in interpretive programs.

You Will:

  • Develop engaging content for the museum’s mobile application in relation to exhibitions, programs, public spaces and content for other digital platforms such as website, online exhibitions, representation of gallery exhibitions, programs, and publications.
  • Collaborate closely with curatorial, digital, marketing, and communication teams on developing digital content for projects such as augmented reality experiences, audio tours, industry insider and filmmaker stories, behind-the-scenes exclusives.
  • Write text and work with the Digital Content Coordinator to provide digital image, audio, and video files for the museum’s digital platforms geared for multiple audiences.
  • Research film and cultural history related to exhibitions, publications, lectures, conferences, symposia, collection guides, and interpretive public programs.
  • Work with Development staff to cultivate individuals, corporations, and foundations that may donate funds or goods and services to support the museum’s digital programs.
  • Assist the senior curatorial team with organizing gallery exhibitions and artist projects.
  • Initiate and maintain contacts with filmmakers, scholars, curators, critics, authors, and other colleagues in the field.
  • Engage the public and share knowledge on the Academy collection and programs and film history in general through exhibitions, publications, lectures, gallery talks, and other innovative public programs.
 
Position Requirements

You Have:

  • MA in film studies, museum studies or related field.
  • 3+ years museum experience.
  • Experience with digital media platforms, including hands-on management of web, application or social media channels.
  • Experience working with living filmmakers or visual artists on projects or exhibitions.
  • Excellent follow through and ability to work with senior management and peers.
