Description

POSITION: Engineering Summer Intern

DEPARTMENT: Engineering

REPORTS TO: Director of Public Works

SUPERVISES: None

DATE: January 21, 2020

POSITION SUMMARY

Performs civil engineering work in compliance with established practices and procedures. Work is performed under the direction of the Director of Public Works. This position is expected to work a standard work week of 37.5 hours except during such times when a representative of the Engineering Department is required to be present for project management, inspection, and related duties (e.g. concrete street paving, sewer work, etc.).

MAJOR POSITION DUTIES

  1. Perform civil engineering work, including drafting and updating maps, surveying, setting house and sidewalk elevations, and other related work.

  2. Conducts construction inspections for public works projects.

  3. Creates construction and record drawings using AutoCAD and G.I.S. programs.

  4. Assists with and/or prepares portions of engineering studies and research for use by the department, city authorities, city agencies and/or the general public.

  5. Performs other duties as assigned.

     

 
Position Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS -(Knowledge, skills, and experience preferred.)

Civil Engineering undergrad coursework, or previous work construction inspection, or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Knowledge of civil engineering, surveying, and construction inspection, in order to assist in the preparation of plans for, and construction of, public works project.
  • Experience and/or training with AutoCAD and ESRI GIS products preferred.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing to develop and maintain effective public and working relations, respond to inquiries and complaints, and prepare technical and administrative reports.
