About the Organization New Teacher Center (NTC) is a national non-profit organization dedicated to improving student learning by guiding a new generation of educators. Founded by teachers in 1998, NTC works in conjunction with school districts, state policymakers and educators across the country to increase the effectiveness of teachers and school leaders at all levels. These programs are built upon research-based principles for teacher onboarding, mentoring and ongoing coaching, and are proven to accelerate teacher effectiveness, reduce teacher churn and improve student achievement. Reporting to the CPO, the Vice President, Program & Partnerships will bring critical program leadership, strategy, and execution of our partnerships across the country, as well as focused strategy within a defined portfolio, in order to live into NTC’s mission of disrupting the predictability of educational inequities for systemically underserved students. Key to success of this position is the ability to oversee a variety of partnerships requiring adaptive change, cross-functional leadership, and the ability to drive outcomes, aligned to our theory of change, strategic plan and organizational mission.

Responsibilities & Essential Functions

The following is an overview of the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. The employee may perform other duties as required.

Program Strategy

  • Set and drive program strategy aligned with NTC’s theory of change grounded in field needs, best practices, cutting edge field developments, and data; effectively communicate program strategy across multiple stakeholders internally and externally

  • Demonstrate effective and efficient strategy development and execution through strong self-management, prioritization and focus, assessment of challenges with a solutions-orientation, clear communication of needs including resource allocation to support the phase-in of NTC’s new strategic plan

  • Oversee portfolio strategy and manage portfolio program leaders towards partnerships to drive healthy, sustainable and impactful growth over time

  • Provide dynamic strategy development and oversight of senior program staff in driving academic strategy, consultation, change management and execution with capacity-building focus for district leadership, school leaders and teacher leaders

  • Provide high quality thought partnership and strategic counsel to the Chief Program Officer, program leadership, and additional leadership across NTC

Driving Opportunities to Expand NTC’s Work

  • Oversee and drive revenue generation within portfolio to support NTC to achieving strategic plan goals over time including cultivating new partnerships, managing and driving relationships with funders, and working with organizational partners

  • Serve as thought leader on current best practices related to NTC’s mission and offerings, internally and externally across partners and the field at large, including in representing NTC in convenings, conferences and other events

  • Demonstrate ability to set strategic vision for potential and existing partnerships and oversee execution of fee-for-service and philanthropic opportunities with clear revenue targets to drive resources for sustainable and impactful partnerships aligned with NTC’s theory of change

  • Effectively cultivate and manage grants and local grant strategy within portfolio

Management and Leadership

  • Manage and develop program staff and teams at multiple levels within portfolio through effective feedback and development strategies, aligned with a culture that values diversity, equity and inclusion; create a thriving workplace culture that is attractive to top talent from across the country

  • Empower senior program staff within portfolio to drive work across client sites

  • Forecast staffing needs across portfolio and work with other senior program leaders to make staffing decisions balancing field needs and financial sustainability

  • Effectively oversee budget management for philanthropic, organizational and fee-for-service contracts within portfolio

  • Model the highest quality of leadership and positive culture-building for program, within the portfolio and across the organization in alignment with NTC’s mission, core values and theory of change

  • Effective facilitation of collaboration across diverse groups of people, functions, levels and contexts both internally and externally


  • Passionate commitment to and belief in NTC’s mission and diversity, equity and inclusion - for the students NTC serves but also as a critical part of a healthy organizational culture

  • Broad knowledge of standards, content, assessment, and best practices for curriculum implementation and building optimal learning environments for underserved students - specifically students of color, English Language Learners, students with disabilities, immigrant students, and students living in poverty

  • Exceptional creativity and problem-solving skills and ability to navigate through change and effectively manage change management - internally and externally

  • Strong working knowledge of management strategies, financial accounting, human resource planning, customer relations, and implementation of new products and services

  • Familiarity with fundraising and increasing revenue while maintaining a top notch reputation in the field as a premier leader in educator effectiveness

  • Focus on results and ability to thrive in a culture of accountability

  • Comfort with public speaking and communicating both verbally and in writing

  • Ability to multitask and oversee a variety of partnerships; comfort and experience in acting as the public face of the organization in external engagements

  • Willingness to challenge the standard thinking with new ideas, new approaches, and new solutions in a respectful and positive way

  • Strong decision-making skills and the focus and determination to see projects through to the end

  • Demonstrated skills in leadership, management, and collaboration

  • Self-directed, able to work independently, and committed to building and being part of a high performing team

**This is a remote-based role with 50% travel required**

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Masters degree or other graduate degree preferred

  • 10+ years K-12 classroom teaching experience and leading teams either in school, Charter Management Organizations, or district levels - from within or through partner organizations, with contexts serving NTC's targeted student populations (students of color, students in poverty, immigrant students, English Language Learners and indigenous students) as a must

  • Experience managing contract budgets

  • Experience in external representation with partners, funders, and other stakeholders

  • Knowledge of business development in pre-K-12 education; general business strategy and deep experience interfacing with high-level district officials

  • Demonstrated proficiency in analytical research, data-driven results, and leadership

  • Non-profit experience is preferred

ADA Requirements/Working Conditions:

  • Work normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment

  • Travel as needed, up to 50%

  • Limited physical effort required

  • May have substantial national travel based on office location/client assignments

  • Requires a valid driver’s license

  • Driving, grasping, hearing, repetitive hand motions, lifting under 50 pounds, pulling, pushing,reaching, sitting, talking, typing
