SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures will be the world’s premier institution dedicated to the art and science of movies. Located at Wilshire and Fairfax in Los Angeles, the Museum will be simultaneously immersive, experimental, educational, and entertaining. More than a museum, this dynamic film center will offer unparalleled experiences and insights into movies and movie-making.

The Graphic Design Manager implements the creative strategy and overall design for the Museum's exhibition spaces. This includes graphic design for print and digital, environmental graphics, collateral, and presentation materials. This position reports to the Creative Director and works closely with internal departments and vendors overseeing accuracy, quality control, deadlines, and budget requirements. You may also oversee freelance designers and interns.

You Will:

  • Conceive original visual materials that are harmonious with the exhibition intent and mission of the Museum.
  • Design and produce a range of print and digital projects including wall murals, didactic texts, and object labels.
  • Help build visual materials, support the branding and creative identity of projects while preserving the brand identity of the Museum.
  • Follow the Museum's special needs and visual accessibility requirements within gallery spaces.
  • Be part of the creative process from concept to production while working on multiple projects.
  • Manage project workflow while coordinating with project teams and management on schedules, budgets requirements, goals, and assignments as needed.
  • Oversee artwork reproductions with the knowledge of resizing, resolution requirements, and touch-ups.
  • Manage master panel schedules, follow up on design specifications and material samples.
  • Primary liaison with external fabricator(s) until the museum opening for all graphic related scope.
  • Ensure external fabricators construction methods work with rotations and longevity of exhibitions.
  • Prepare digital files for graphic production.
 
Position Requirements

You Have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in graphic design, visual communications, fine arts, or related MFA preferred.
  • 5+ years of design-related work experience.
  • A portfolio that showcases creative, conceptual, color, and layout skills; typographical skills an absolute must while demonstrating a high degree of diversity and productivity.
  • Mastery of Adobe lnDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop.
  • Proofreading skills to produce accurate and high-quality work.
  • Experience with production schedules, working with others, managing deadlines, budgets, clients, and vendors.
  • Knowledge of printing processes and experience managing print production.
