TANF Assistant / Trainee
OVERVIEW:
The primary purpose of the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe (LEKT) TANF Assistance / Trainee position is to provide clerical and administrative support to the TANF Case Managers and Program Manager while collaborating with all social services staff and other professionals. This position will be supervised by the TANF Program Manager, but will work closely with the social services receptionist.

WORK SCHEDULE: 8 am to 4:30 pm, Monday thru Friday/Varies
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
Under the direction of the TANF Program Manager, the TANF Assistant / Trainee will work closely with the TANF and social services staff to provide clerical support. The primary responsibility is to ensure that applications and intake are complete for TANF, General Assistance (GA) and the Emergency Food Assistance Program (EFAP). This position will also cover for the social service receptionist during training and absences as available.
Determine eligibility for TANF, complete intake and ensure client file is complete;
Determine eligibility for General Assistance (GA); complete intake and ensure client file is complete;
Determine eligibility for Emergency Food Assistance Program (EFAP), maintain communication with applicants and complete applicants' orders as received.
Maintain records of applicants and recipients, and prepare monthly reports for the Social Services Director;
Maintain contact with vendors, and attend food coalition meetings
Complete all vendor orders and track and complete monthly inventory reports.
Follow up on all incomplete applications with applicants for TANF, GA and Food Pantry;
Provides back up coverage in the absence of the Receptionist or when a break is needed;
Assist other social services programs when available;
Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
Great and respond to persons accessing the Human/Social Services Building either in-person or by telephone to help ensure that they have a pleasant and satisfactory visit
Ability to maintain a cordial relationship with various departments of the organization for proper coordination of services
Must be well organized and have detail oriented approach
Assist in maintenance of file management systems
Complete all necessary documentation in a timely manner.
Proficient in the use of MS Office (Word, Excel, etc.), internet, fax, copier, printers, scanners and telephone
Ability and willingness to learn new systems, techniques and procedures
Excellent written and oral communication skills;
Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines;
Demonstrated knowledge and the ability to model the expectations of confidentiality
Be willing to be supervised, accept constructive criticism when necessary and be willing to offer ideas and suggestions to work as a team member
Valid WA State food handlers card
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or GED, higher education is desired;
Experience working in a Native American community;
Knowledge of general goals and purpose of the LEKT Social Services Programs;
Ability to be positive, enthusiastic and creative while coordinating a diverse group of individuals and organizations;
Ability to work well with people of all ages and cultural/economic backgrounds;
Ability to motivate others to participate in training, educational opportunities and other activities;
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing;
Experience working with Indian tribes in grant related activities;
Ability to work effectively, either independently or cooperatively with others and to work a flex schedule based on the program needs;
Knowledge of the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe and surrounding communities;
Must pass UA testing prior to employment and submit random urinalysis upon request;
Ability to adhere to LEKT Employee Handbook;
Capable of lifting at minimum 50 lbs.;
Capable of bending, kneeling, stretching and siting for long periods of time;
Valid Driver's License;
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS
Must be able to comply with the LOWER KLALLAM TRIBE policies and procedures, including the Drug Free Workplace;
Must be able to travel for meetings, training, workshops when necessary, which may include out of state travel.
Demonstrated knowledge and the ability to model the expectations of confidentiality.
