JOB SUMMARY

Perform the final installation, assembly and closure of the most complex instruments, controllers, scales and other similar electronic, electro-mechanical and mechanical products in an assigned area. Perform similar level of work in the repair, rework and modification of customer returned units. Perform other complex processing and fabrication as described below.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Acquire and maintain all required certifications.
  • Job Complexity and Supervision: Apply practical knowledge of assembly and improvements. Requires coordination with manufacturing and design engineers and technicians, as authorized and required. Work is normally performed under general and infrequent supervision and in accordance with generally known procedures, practices and operating plans, but with considerable personal judgment and interpretation required in application. Determine methods and procedures on new assignments. May provide guidance to other nonexempt personnel.
  • Final Product Verification: Through formal QA training and certification; must be able to perform Final Product Verification.
  • Pre-production (NPI): Assemble and install combinations of components, wiring, sub-assemblies and hardware to build any type of new electronic and electro-mechanical unit in a designated pre-production station. Develop and record the most efficient and effective assembly sequence, techniques, methods and processing steps for subsequent regular production and , as assigned, explain and demonstrate (provide training) to regular production employees; layout dimensions and locations as necessary. Perform all work within company workmanship standards.
  • Customer-Return & Repair (CRR): Modify, repair and rework customer-returned electronic and electro-mechanical units. Determine efficient and effective sequence for disassembly and reassembly; salvage components; repair and replace those designated as defective or modified.
  • Production repair station: Modify, repair and rework any assigned type of final production electronic and electro-mechanical unit in a designated production repair station. Determine efficient and effective sequence for disassembly and reassembly; salvage components; repair and replace those designated as defective and modified.
  • Specialized assignments: Perform specialized assignments in complex assembly and associated processing operations requiring substantial innovating and adapting to resolve problems in a timely manner and to meet all required specifications. (Such abilities are expected to be acquired only by long-term, in-depth and progressively more responsible experience at Astronics AES – or equivalent work situations.)
  • May be required to perform product testing.
  • Interpret and work in accordance with work orders; drawings, charts and other applicable engineering and production specifications; assure application of latest revisions; may also work from sketches and oral instructions. May be required to perform acceptance test procedures, hi-pot, leakage tests, pull tests, other “go, no-go” test per specified instructions.
  • Visually check completed work against drawings to ensure accuracy, completeness, latest revision. Remove and replace encapsulations and bonding, as applicable. Dimensionally check work utilizing applicable measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, scales.
  • Set up and utilized properly all applicable jigs, fixtures, aids; adapt tooling to new uses or work without tooling as necessary to complete work assignment. Use accurately such hand or power tools as soldering irons, solder suckers, wire strippers, high voltage soldering irons, resistance (module) welders, bench spot welders, nut drives, torque wrenches, drill presses, sanders, and microscope. Use iridite touch-up, solvents, degreasers, abrasives and other cleaning agents to clean work prior to solder and assembly as required.
  • Coordinate with engineering relative to prototype or repair problems, as authorized. May be assigned to set up equipment, interpret specifications, train and check accuracy of work of designated employees of lower classification.
  • Demonstrate the consistent ability to perform SMT parts placement and proper soldering/desoldering techniques per IPC-610. IPC7711-7721.
  • 5S: Will adhere to “5S” practices and organization for the workplace and participate in “lean-based” activities designed to promote continuous improvement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience:

High School diploma or general education degree (GED) required

Will require certification in IPC610, 7711 and 7721.

2 years relevant aerospace production/assembly experience required. 4 years relevant aerospace production/assembly experience preferred.
