201006 - Library Assistant 

Location CLP - East Liberty  

Job Summary: Seeking a highly motivated and technology-focused individual to serve as a Library Assistant at the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh-East Liberty. The qualified candidate will bring positive prospective, empathy and compassion, as well as a sense of humor to this neighborhood library.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing an extremely high standard of customer service at every turn, internally and externally;
  • Honor the CLP Philosophy and Standard of Service;
  • Assist customers of all ages in performing reference searches, selecting and locating materials, and providing reader’s advisory services;
  • Engaging proactively and build relationships with the community via general public service work, technology instructions, library instructions, and outreach and programs;
  • Collaborating with staff and community members to achieve shared goals;
  • Coaching customers on printing, scanning, faxing, copying, and online computer reservations;
  • Understanding and relaying information about all library services offered to customers, to inform computer interactions;
  • Creating and sharing best practices around technical assistance;
  • Providing instruction and troubleshooting in on-on-one computer situations and occasionally in classes with the goal of developing confidence and self-sufficiency in customers surrounding technology and the job search process;
  • Mentoring users of all ages within the library;
  • Participating in system-wide initiatives and programs and performing committee work, as their time allows.
Position Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree Required;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Experience working with children, teens, or adults in an urban setting preferred;
  • Ability to navigate and interpret CLP policies and procedures;
  • Strong computer skills, including the use of the internet and MS Office;
  • Knowledge of current technological and workforce trends;
  • Ability to work as part of a team; manage assignments and responsibilities effectively in a busy urban environment;
  • Spanish language strongly preferred;
  • The physical ability to bend, stoop, stand for long periods of time, push heavy book trucks, and lift heavy loads (25+ pounds);
  • PA State Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance, FBI Fingerprint Criminal Records Check, and Mandated Reporter Training upon offer of employment.
Full-Time/Part-Time Part-Time  
Work Hours 25 hours per week; days, evenings, and weekends required.  
Salary $17.00 per hour
