Description

SUMMARY: Open Door Community Health Centers (ODCHC) provides high quality primary health care through a network of health center sites. The LAc is part of an innovative, whole person, comprehensive and Integrative Team. This position will work within a multidisciplinary team (MDT) approach, made up of a variety of providers such as a Medical Provider (FNP/NP, PA, DO or MD), Chiropractor, Massage Therapist, Physical Therapist, Behavioral Health Provider, RN and support staff. The LAc will work side by side with our Primary Care Providers in a collaborative approach to serve patients who struggle with complex conditions, varying diagnoses, chronic and acute pain, behavioral/mood disorders, muscular-skeletal problems, and other health challenges, including a variety of opioid dependent/addiction related issues. The team approach is an innovative way of addressing the whole person while working in an integrative fashion with the MDT. This has shown to support this approach by combining and considering Allopathic Western Medicine along with Eastern Medicine modalities. . The ideal candidate will have a passion for whole person care, knowledge and experience in herbal medicine and who may find their unique set of skills to support individual and group acupuncture by doing distal needling and other styles of acupuncture conducive to group and individual acupuncture care.

 
Position Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Essential duties and responsibilities are performed within the context of collaboration and coordination with ODCHC’s multiple departments and programs, including strong relationships with program coordinator, region directors, other site medical providers, multiple support departments and professionals of diverse disciplines.

  • Provide individual Traditional Chinese Medicine consultations and acupuncture sessions to ODCHC clinic patients within the health care organization.
  • Work in collaboration side–by-side with other practitioners of the ODCHC clinics to provide exceptional integrative medical care to all patients.
  • Collaborate with the other ODCHC acupuncturists and program coordinator to implement and sustain best practices in the area of acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine.
  • Take medical histories in accordance with the principles of Traditional Chinese/Eastern Medicine in combination with the principles of Allopathic/Western Medicine with Collaborative Medial Providers (CMP) assessment and diagnosis.
  • Provide appropriate body acupuncture to patients during private, one-on-one sessions and individual patients within a group setting.
  • Documentation of all encounters and procedures in accordance with federal/state coding regulations and standards and ODCHC policies.
  • Create a healing environment of care for patients, including compliance in areas such as hygiene, clean needle protocols and needle disposal and patient safety in accordance with ODCHC and OSHA guidelines.
  • Participate as a member of the Clinical Services Team and provides Chinese Medicine recommendations during case conferencing and one on one consulting.
  • Consult with other providers as needed and work collaboratively with the Integrative Wellness Services team on streamlining treatment with the goal of increased access and sustainability.
  • Participate in integrative medicine trainings and related continuing education programs to maintain and develop diagnostic and treatment skills and attends clinic integrative team meetings as requested.
  • Provide appropriate referral when other treatment is necessary or more suitable, work collaboratively with the other members of the Integrative Wellness team to support continuity of care.
  • Contribute positively to the efficiency, accessibility, productivity, quality, safety, compassion and professionalism of the work setting;
  • Adhere to ODCHC’s policies and procedures; and,
  • Other duties and responsibilities as identified and assigned by the Region Director and/or Chief Operations Officer.

QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate will possess experience and skills spanning a variety of areas:

  • Undergraduate degree health care or related field; graduate degree preferred
  • Licensed in the State of Ca. and Maintains Licensed Acupuncturist (LAc) and other licensing requirements.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, written and verbal. Ability to establish constructive working relationships with all levels of management and employees in a staff of varied and diverse background
  • Ability to provide appropriate body acupuncture to patients during private, one-on-one sessions and individual patients within a group setting (When appropriate). This may include distal work in addition to core work based on group or one on one setting.
  • Ability to work in a high paced environment and maintain professional interactions with patients and staff.
  • Demonstrated success in working within a team environment.
  • Ability to generate and sustain morale among staff.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating and addressing difficult or time-sensitive situations; ability to handle difficult and confrontational situations in a calm and equitable manner;
  • Demonstrated commitment to employee engagement, development and advancement; demonstrated thoughtful and inclusive decision-making processes
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and objectivity
  • Bi-lingual a plus and multilingual a huge bonus (Spanish and Hmong are the primary second languages of our patient population).
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures and government regulations; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from staff, patients, and the general public.
  • Strong understanding of mission-driven organizations; safety net organizations; non-profit organizations; and role of community health centers in health care and community infrastructure;
  • Knowledge of health care delivery, administration and program planning; understanding of legal and ethical issues related to health care delivery and patient care.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to set priorities and meet deadlines;
  • Excellent computer skills, including ability to use word processing, spreadsheet, data management, web-based programs and conduct various analyses and comparisons using Excel; ability to learn ODCHC software applications;
  • Ability to collaborate with others while working with minimal supervision;
  • Valid and insurable California drivers’ license and reliable transportation.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This is largely a site-based position; however, travel among other ODCHC sites is expected. The physical requirements described are representative of those needed to successfully perform the essential duties of the position.
