NOTE* FULLSUMMER AVAILABILITY REQUIRED Definition and Purpose Under the supervision of the Coordinator – Human Resources, the Recruitment Student Assistant provides clerical and technical support to ASI Human Resources staff. The Recruitment Student Assistant is responsible for student employee recruitment, selection, orientation, and training. ASI’s Human Resources is responsible for up to 525 student and 115 staff/intermittent employees per year. ASI is committed to supporting the aspirations of the University Learning Objectives. Educational Requirements and Qualifying Experience Must be a currently enrolled student at Cal Poly with a minimum of 6 units. All ASI student staff must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 at Cal Poly. Graduate students must carry 4 units/3.0 cumulative GPA at Cal Poly. Course work in Human Resources preferred. Communication Studies, Psychology, Social Science, or Business majors with concentration in Human Resources preferred Knowledge of Windows based computer systems required (Microsoft Office) and/or recruitment software programs preferred Excellent communication and organizational skills Ability to work cooperatively with others or independently, as the situation requires Ability to provide positive customer service Ability to apply judgment and discretion in performing confidential personnel matters Ability to be highly organized and have good planning skills Reliable, self-motivated and work well with minimum supervision Previous general office or clerical experience Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously Experience working with high volume fast-paced environment Previous customer service experience preferred Position specific equipment knowledge Routine decisions based on specific criteria/guidelines Ability to be flexible and adapt to change Ability to work with diverse populations and those with special limitations or needs Ability to set personal and professional goals and takes steps to successful completion Supervisory Responsibilities None Essential Duties and Responsibilities Post student positions available in the Orfalea Family & ASI Children’s Center, Recreational Sports and University Union Recruit, conduct interviews and select candidates for all frontline student positions in the Orfalea Family & ASI Children’s Center, Recreational Sports and University Union in order to maintain an effective pool of candidates for positions at all times Assist in recruiting, screening and interviewing applicants; notify applicants of selection or non-selection in the Orfalea Family & ASI Children’s Center, Recreational Sports and University Union Conduct new employee orientations for students and regular staff as needed Process paperwork for new student employees Maintain student personnel files Maintain good customer relations between the student body and ASI; act as liaison between individual departments and student employees Perform GPA audits of current and prospective student employees Perform clerical duties, including filing, answering phones and word-processing Maintain familiarity with evacuation plan for work area Attend all mandatory meetings, workshops, and retreats Provide quality customer service for all staff and customers Awareness of safety concerns and risk management Awareness of and appreciation for individual uniqueness and diversity Maintain prompt hours and follow absence procedures Maintain a positive working relationship with staff and co-workers Adhere to and enforce all ASI departmental policies and procedures Ensure a safe environment for all participants Commitment to student development and leadership General office assistance (word processing, filing, mailing, copying) Set up/schedule meetings Assist with other technical duties as needed Assist with special projects Assist with event planning details Compile daily, weekly, and monthly statistics Other duties as assigned Other Duties and Responsibilities The person holding this position is considered a "mandated reporter" under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in ASI policy as a condition of their employment. Period of Employment Employment with this organization is of an "at will" nature, which means that the employee may resign at any time and ASI may discharge the employee at any time with or without cause.
