Job Summary:

Under direction of the Kitchen Supervisor, the Assistant Food Service Supervisor is responsible for high quality, nutritious meal preparation, and general operations of a commercial kitchen.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Prepare meals and snacks as outlined by menu and recipe guidelines and as directed by the Food Service Supervisor.
  • Maintains high standard of cleanliness of kitchen area and equipment by adhering to Serve Safe standards: to include temperature rules and the rotation of stock.
  • Assists in maintaining dining areas and other kitchen equipment throughout the building to ensure cleanliness and sanitization.
  • Understands and follows all health department, government and Council on Accreditation regulations which apply to this agency.
  • Safely handles, labels, stores, and stocks cleaning supplies and chemicals as outlined by the standards and guidelines established by the Food Service Department.
  • Informs appropriate individual of needed supplies before products are exhausted.
  • Assists in arrangements and food / beverage preparation for special events and meetings such as banquets, board meetings, luncheons, and trainings.
    • Assists with set-up, take-down, and clean-up of agency events.
  • Identifies and resolves safety and cleanliness issues as they arise.
  • Assists with donations; storage, pick up and dissemination as needed.
  • Assists with volunteers as required by the Food Service Supervisor.
  • Responsible for guiding and directing kitchen operations in the absence of the Food Service Supervisor.
  • Orders, stocks and inventories supplies: to include monitoring supply levels on the units.
  • Assists Food Service Supervisor with paperwork, and ensuring that the kitchen meets or exceeds all, Government, Health and Council on Accreditation regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Attend meetings and trainings as required by the agency.

Position Requirements

Education: High School Diploma / GED

Experience: Commercial Food Preparation and Kitchen experience required. Knowledge of basic nutritional requirements is preferred.

Registration, licenses, certifications or special training; A valid Michigan Driver License, access to reliable transportation.

The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Emotionally able to work with information that may be traumatic in nature, as well as, work with individuals or families in crisis or experiencing trauma.
  • Ability to stand and/or walk up to 8 hours per shift.
  • Work involves talking, stooping, squatting, twisting, climbing, kneeling, hearing, using hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms.
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • May be required to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to sit and use computer workstation, including keyboard and visual display terminal for extended periods of time.
  • Noise in the work environment is usually moderately quiet but can be very loud at times.
  • Work in an environment with various degrees of discomfort.
  • Driving as needed throughout the day.
