Job Summary

The Director, Strategic Planning and Initiatives is an integral member of the organization who is charged with working with senior leadership to coordinate the implementation of a long-term strategic plan. The Director will collaborate with senior leaders to set cohesive annual business plans in support of the long-term strategic plan and will serve as an advisor to the President on progress toward established goals, including establishing metrics and monitoring progress toward such goals. In this role, the Director will also be responsible for evaluating business systems and processes and will be asked to lead special projects on behalf of the Pirates.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Work with senior leadership to coordinate the implementation of the long-term strategic plan for the organization based on internal and external market and competitive dynamics.
  2. Collaborate with and provide direction to senior leadership to set annual business plans through an inclusive process in order to develop action plans which align with long-term goals and near-term objectives.
  3. Regularly monitor progress on long-term goals and near-term objectives to provide senior leadership metrics on organizational performance, including but not limited to, strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.
  4. Conduct thorough evaluations of business opportunities, including but not limited to, competitive analysis, market analysis, performance analysis, technology platforms, and strategic fit.
  5. Evaluate existing systems and where needed, oversee the improvement, development and implementation of new structures, processes, practices and evaluation methodologies and metrics to create efficient and effective business operations and to enhance business decision making.
  6. Assist the senior leadership team with the implementation of business intelligence tools and systems across the organization in order to provide decision-makers with access to relevant information while improving transparency and access to information across organization.
  7. Assist in training personnel on topics, including but not limited to, strategic planning, project management, resource utilization, and goal setting.
  8. Lead special projects for the organization as assigned by the President.
  9. Support President and senior leadership team in preparation for high level external meetings.
  10. All other duties as assigned by the President.
Position Requirements


  1. Bachelor’s degree and post-secondary education completed in related field – MBA Preferred
  2. Minimum of five (5) years of strategy or management experience with a top tier firm or equivalent experience with strategic planning within a leading corporation.
  3. Exceptional skill in use of Microsoft Suite, including but not limited to, MS Word, Power Point, and Excel.


  1. Project Management Certification or equivalent.
  2. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft CRM and Tableau.
  3. Prior work with a major league sports organization in a strategic planning and execution role.
