Position Quality Specialist, Early Childhood Education  
Full-Time/Part-Time Full-Time  
Base Wage $17.75 - $19.25 per hour based on education level. Comprehensive benefit package available.  
Description

The Quality Specialist will work with child care center and family child care practitioners to promote best practice, share information and provide technical assistance on ExceleRate Illinois Quality Recognition & Improvement System (QRIS). The role of the Specialist should be relationship-based, specific, intensive consultation with child care practitioners including staff, directors and family child care practitioners. The Quality Specialist works as part of the Child Care Resource and Referral team to increase practitioner quality of care. Upon hire, Specialist receives detailed training on assessment tools and other aspects of QRIS, in which a score threshold is required.

Examples of Essential Functions include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Promote the Quality Recognition Improvement System to practitioners and parents within the service delivery area
  • Identify quality improvement needs within specified geographic area.
  • Provide technical assistance and consultation on all aspects of QRIS to child care practitioners via phone, email, and on-site visits.
  • Assist child care practitioners with developing and implementing quality improvement plans
  • Develop training to assist program staff in reaching program improvement goals and assist with the Grant Program Co-horts
  • Work in cooperation with and refer, as needed, to other CCR&R staff including the Infant Toddler Specialist and Mental Health Consultant also available.
  • Provide developmentally appropriate resources and guidance to practitioners
  • Work with community partners, e.g. businesses and schools, to increase awareness of the importance of and the impact that high quality child care has on the developing child
  • Participate in ongoing professional development, including workdays, webinars, etc.
  • Maintain documentation that supports work with practitioners within statewide database.
  • Submit reports to Department, or its agent, as required.
  • Become Gateways Registry Approved Member and Trainer within twelve months of employment.
