Director of Pharmacy Purchasing and Inventory Management 

Description

The Director of Pharmacy Purchasing and Inventory Management coordinates activities related to stocking and replenishing goods sold by the company by performing the duties outlined below.

Essential Functions

  • Oversee the procurement process and inventory management for pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical supplies.
  • Review, evaluate and establish purchasing techniques and procedures to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Educate staff on a standard set of operating procedures and perform continuous monitoring to ensure compliance.
  • Negotiate purchases/contracts for pharmaceuticals, consumable supplies, maintenance/support services.
  • Oversee the implementation and performance of supply chain vendor contracts.
  • Analyze new and existing agreements for greater cost savings; set annual cost savings targets and report on performance against targets.
  • Assess the pharmaceutical supply chain and actively participate in the identification and management of medication shortages.
  • Measure pharmacy compliance to purchasing initiatives and develop tools to improve adherence.
  • Lead metric-based performance discussions consistently to ensure achievement of results.
  • Develop standardized documents, processes and calculations for use by the Pharmacy team to quantify and report Pharmacy savings solutions as compared to goals.
  • Ensure purchasing and inventory tools, data and infrastructure are optimized for performance.
  • Manage and mentor future Purchasing Department professionals.
 
Position Requirements

Education: HS diploma required.

Experience:

  • At least three years of experience in a supervisory capacity managing pharmacy operations spanning multiple locations.
  • Experience managing inventory with pharmacy automation preferred.

Skills:

  • Strong leadership and influencing skills, including the ability to work collaboratively and effectively with leaders and employees at all levels in the organization.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent communication skills.
