Research Associate I, Molecular and Cellular Biology

About the Organization Syros is redefining the power of small molecules to control the expression of genes. Based on its unique ability to elucidate regulatory regions of the genome, Syros aims to develop medicines that provide a profound benefit for patients with diseases that have eluded other genomics-based approaches. Syros is advancing a robust pipeline of development candidates, including SY-1425, a first-in-class oral selective RARα agonist in a Phase 2 trial in a genomically defined subset of acute myeloid leukemia patients, and SY-5609, a highly selective and potent oral CDK7 inhibitor in investigational new drug application-enabling studies in cancer. Syros also has multiple preclinical and discovery programs in oncology and monogenic diseases, including sickle cell disease. Description

Syros Pharmaceuticals is seeking a highly motivated individual to join a dynamic drug discovery team. This lab-based position will focus on performing high throughput screening assays to support drug discovery for oncology projects. The successful candidate will genetically and chemically interrogate cellular systems, perform and eventually develop cell-based screening assays to support discovery and development of small molecule oncology drug candidates. This individual will have the opportunity to learn and master various cutting-edge techniques including FACS, high-content imaging, Meso Scale Discovery (MSD) etc. to support programs as they progress and should be an enthusiastic learner with the ability to pick up things quickly without repeated training. This person will also contribute to presentations and publications in support of the project. These contributions will help guide the development of programs as they advance to lead-optimization.

The candidate must have a BS/MS in a relevant field with 1-2 years of post-degree experience in an academic or industrial setting; competence in tissue culture, familiarity with use of small molecules in cancer biology and proficiency in standard molecular biology practices including western blotting, RNA prep and qPCR. Experience with high throughput compound screening and mechanism of action studies is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Tissue culture for cancer cell lines and primary cell lines
  • Perform high throughput compound screening assays in a timely manner
  • Execute a wide array of technical methods including molecular biology and cell culture: expression analysis by real time PCR, western blot, immunofluorescence, FACS, protein enrichment (IP) or ChIP-Seq
  • Effectively troubleshoot routine assays
  • Critically analyze and interpret data and effectively document and communicate results
  • Contribute effectively to the projects in a multi-disciplinary team environment
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned

Success Factors

  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent time-management
  • Desire and ability to work in a fast paced, cross-functional, flexible and team-oriented environment
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communications skills
