Description

Reports to: Director of Agency Network Services

The Inventory Coordinator assists in the recordkeeping of food and related materials received and delivered by Second Harvest. S/he role plays a leadership role in managing accurate inventory levels through the processing of orders and invoices, and physical inventory counts.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Inventory

  • Assists in the inventory and distribution of government commodities, fresh, frozen, and dry foods.
  • Participates in accurate inventory control measures including periodic physical inventory and cycle counts, and the investigation of discrepancies.
  • Assists with product rotation using FEFO methods, within appropriate timelines.
  • Post incoming and outgoing product orders and invoices using CERES (Windows NAV) and Warehouse Management Software.
  • Support weekly, monthly, and quarterly reporting on product distribution and inventory records for various programs and agencies (USDA, Feeding America, CA Dept. Social Services).
  • Manage documentation and disposal of food returns and waste.
  • Makes recommendations to supervisor for improved efficiency and accuracy.
  • When asked, train and direct warehouse staff in the receiving and put away of product, maintaining orderliness and cleanliness.

Warehouse Operations

  • Safely drive a forklift in a warehouse setting.
  • Maintain safe food handling practices.
  • Maintain safe warehouse practices.

Food Sourcing

  • Assist in scheduling delivery appointments
  • Assist in placing Raley’s order
  • Provide input for ordering of USDA product
  • Participate in Cluster call

Customer Service

  • Serve as an ambassador for the food bank and its mission in the community.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships and deal tactfully, cooperatively and effectively with staff members, volunteers, agencies, community organizations, growers, packers, processors, and potential donors.
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with people of different racial, ethnic and cultural groups and from different backgrounds and lifestyles.
  • Work with other team members in a cooperative and supportive way; providing assistance and fill-in coverage for other positions.
 
Position Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

Two years prior warehousing or inventory management experience. Any experience in safe food handling, storage, and transport.

Knowledge/Skills/Ability

  • Knowledge of safe food handling requirements for transport and storage.
  • Knowledge of produce and ability to determine quality and estimate edibility.
  • Knowledge of inventory control practices, procedures and recordkeeping methods.
  • Database experience.
  • Ability to work as a part of a team, to foster teamwork and to provide excellent service to coworkers and customers.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with people of various ages, educational, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish is desirable.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to repeatedly lift bulky items weighing as much as 50 pounds.
  • Able to see and read documents.
  • Able to hear normal conversations in person and on the phone.
  • Able to work in a cold environment.
  • Bi-manual dexterity.
  • Requires standing throughout the day.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Forklift certification preferred or must enroll in training program immediately upon hire.
  • Must have access to a motor vehicle, as well as valid auto insurance coverage, for occasional driving on the job.
  • Must have valid California Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record, as documented by a current MVR (will be obtained by the Food Bank’s insurance carrier).
  • It is the responsibility of all SHFB personnel to participate in our Food Safety/Food Defense programs.

Job Details: This is a full-time, regular, non-exempt position paying between $17.90 - $20.00 / hour, DOE. Benefits include health, dental and vision insurance; life, long-term disability, AD&D, and long-term care insurance; 403b retirement fund; and generous paid time off. Position requires working occasional nights and/or weekends.
