Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate a team of support staff and volunteers providing one to one assistance to children/youth with special needs. This assistance will include personal care (toileting, feeding etc.) hand over hand, communication, mobility and behaviour management.
  • Liaise with families prior to and throughout the duration of the program to ensure the needs of the children/youth are met.
  • Support new applicant screening applications/meetings
  • Match support workers and volunteers to participants according to needs.
  • Work effectively in a team environment to provide a safe stimulating experience for all participants.
  • Collaborate with program staff and volunteers
  • Create daily lunch schedule for children/youth and support staff to ensure that the needs of the participants are met.
  • Support workers to plan care and resolve any challenges that may arise.
  • Provide nursing support (medications, feeds, wound care, etc) to participants on an as needed basis during program time.

Qualifications

RPN qualifications:

  • Registered Practical Nurse Diploma
  • Current BCLS certificate-Basic Rescuer (C) certificate
  • Previous job-related experience, preferably in a pediatric or rehabilitation setting
  • Demonstrated clinical skills in caring for children with complex orthopedic and/or respiratory needs
  • Experience in behaviour management preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a diverse workload while setting priorities and meeting deadlines
  • Demonstrated computer skills, Meditech experience preferred

Plus:

  • Experience working with children and youth with diverse special needs
  • Able to lead and advise a team of 1:1 staff working directly with participants
  • Sensitivity to the needs of program participants and their families
  • Excellent organizational and documentation skills
  • Excellent communication and time management skills.
  • Ability to work as a member of a larger team.
  • Adaptability, flexibility and problem solving skills required.
